Puerto de La Cruz (north Tenerife)

Hi, could anyone who has been to Puerto de La Cruz in northern Tenerife, tell me a bit about it please? We are looking to go on holiday there but will have older teens with us, and I’m worried there won’t be much to do as it is busier in the south of the island. We’d probably get a bus to Siam park one day, but is there enough to occupy them for a week? Bars/entertainment, activities, beach/pools etc. Thank you.

I've been when my kids were small. The beach isn't great. There is kind of a splash park in town that looked good. Loro Park is excellent and worth a look. We did the botanic Gardens, strolled about and visited scenic villages on coast and inland. Not sure what kind of teens you have!
There was also a very cool sun set bar on the cliff. I'm sure they would like that. Some of the seaside villages are cool.
You can get up the mountain but it's quite a drive, then the cable car is often shut due to wind.
Ive decided to do south tenerife next time for the sandy beaches and bigger attractions. We did have a lovely time though in the North.

I've been a couple of times on day trips. It's a nice town but not much to do. It also gets loads more cloud than the south of the island. One of our memories of the 12 years we had a time share in Tenerife was waiting for the big clouds to clear and constantly saying to each other that the sun will come out any minute now!

I visited about 10 years ago (mid October) with young children, it was lovely but there's much more to do in the south for teenagers. The weather was pretty bad too, cloudy and raining, yet we took a day trip to Playa de Las Americas/Los Christianos and it was hot and sunny. The hotel staff said the weather was always better in the south.

It’s my new favourite place on Tenerife - me and DH have visited about 5 times on the past 8 years ( other than 2021).

i don’t know if there’s a lot for children really. There is a lido for swimming- the sea is generally too rough up there.

We tend to walk around, eat, drink and take the bus to Santa Cruz the capital, and other towns nearby.

Never had bad weather though

It's a lot colder and wetter in the north

Friends who flew there and didn't like it , rang us and we were staying at south and we said was on beach in cossies and 37 and she didn't beleive it

As was wet cold where she was

As we drive to pick then up I was surprised how the temp and weather changes

Go to the south
that resort is pretty quiet for teenagers tbh

Be aware of the transfer times from the airport.
The Lido is a good place to spend the daytime sunbathing / swimming but the water is cold, sea temperature cold.

There’s plenty of shops and the front is now pedestrianised and had some money spent on it tidying it up.

If you do go up Tiede it’s 7000ft ish , so take something to wear in case it’s windy or cold.
You’ll likely climb above the clouds on the way up which is quite a sight.

Teide is fab. Amazing how hot it is at the bottom yet at the top via cable car it's - and need a fleece /cardi

The views are amazing though
