Taking food through airport security

I'm taking my kids away for the weekend as long as no other disasters befall us this week...long story. But what I want to ask is, can I take a stash of Weetabix, ginger snaps and bananas through security??? We won't be arriving til late and just want to have a few things to get us through the night. The airbnb host is leaving some milk in the fridge for us, hooray! So will that be ok?

You can buy that the departure lounge in the shops, not sure about the bananas but the dry stuff should be ok.

Mushroo · 09/06/2023 11:48

Yes should be ok. Some countries do have restrictions on fruit though so that might get confiscated.

RedToothBrush · 09/06/2023 11:50

Can take through security but can't take bananas (or skins) at customs the other end.

Banana on the actual plane is massively anti-social though.

Weetabix and ginger snaps fine though.

TheFlis12345 · 09/06/2023 11:51

Solid food is absolutely fine to take through, just nothing wet like yogurt.

AlwaysTheGoodGirl · 09/06/2023 11:58

Ooo, interesting @RedToothBrush But then again I think all food on a plane should be classed as antisocial. Cinemas too! It's only two hours! But anyway, yes the snacks are for when we arrive really, just in case I can't find anything the kids will actually eat in Latvia.

I don't know the rules about Lativa, but the Bananas could be problematic.
The dry, packaged stuff should be fine.

Why are bananas antisocial?? I don't like the things, but have no issues with others eating them. What have I missed?

AxolotlOnions · 09/06/2023 12:06

Latvia is in the EU so you are not allowed to take bananas.

egowise · 09/06/2023 12:12

Why are bananas antisocial!?

RedToothBrush · 09/06/2023 12:17

They stink to high heaven. In an enclosed space, next to people you don't know, it's anti-social.

They are a food that a significant number of people have a real aversion to.

RedToothBrush · 09/06/2023 12:18

You can't take them to Latvia anyway.

AlwaysTheGoodGirl · 09/06/2023 12:18

Be gone, bananas! Thank you for the answers everyone.

@AxolotlOnions So if we were still in the EU I would be able to take bananas? More fury to add to my list... grrrrr...

Gross smell!!!

AlwaysTheGoodGirl · 09/06/2023 12:22

I would definitely not have opened a banana on the plane, I assure you all!

Yes.

It's meat, milk and their products you can't take. Some fruits can't be taken but bananas are actually permitted
