Following the v helpful Paris with kids thread, would anyone have particular recommendations for Amsterdam? Children will be 11 and 8. Thanks!

Very cool! Unfortunately I don't seem to be able to get the stadium tour, 5 weeks to go! The basic stadium tour and VR tour are the only ones available as off season but it says no dates at all available, and the whole year then booked off... I'm wondering if maybe it doesn't allow bookings before a certain date? I say with fingers crossed

Day trips. We went out to the windmills and Edam / volendam with tickets and tours and it was ace. Nemo amazing. Pancake bakery a must. The rjiksmuseum does a treasure hunt which they enjoyed. Probably the best city I’ve visited with kids!

Super thank you. I'm wondering if the Amsterdam City Card is worth getting.

@mikado1 there may be a concert on in the Arena which limits the scope of the tours. You could try calling or emailing them to check

Ok thanks. It's the whole calendar blocked off forever that made me wonder.

You must go to the chocolonely café, it has melted chocolate coming out of taps!

We went recently with an 8 and 5 year old - fantastic city! We stayed at Yays Maritime, which is self catering apartments. Easy to get bus/tram from there to anywhere, and it was a safe, clean area with some restaurants and a supermarket nearby, and within 15 min walk of NEMO and the Artis zoo.

NEMO was brilliant, and kids loved the Tony's chocoloney store too (though the area this was in was busy and dirty - it was the only bit I didn't like). We didn't do the zoo, but did the Micropia museum next to it, which I thought was excellent and one DC loved it while the other got a bit bored. We also did a boat tour which was pleasant and just walked around the city a bit.

Reading this thread I'm a bit disappointed we didn't do the Ajax tour, and DS would have loved the football camp.

I wouldn’t bother with the Amsterdam card unless you are truly going to hammer the museums etc

No, that's fine, thank you.
