Phuket/Krabi in August, too rainy?

Does anyone have personal experience of this? It'll be early August.
We're after excursions and swimming, we're not a sunbathing family, but will it be raining all day/every day and a complete waste of a holiday?
I've got booking fear and can't decide on anything 😨

We went to Phuket one August and it properly pissed it down for two whole weeks! Could you have a look over the other side at Ko Samui?

I have been to Phuket in August - it was hot and humid, fine for sitting out by the pool, we still managed to spend time outside every day and do trips etc. We had one day where it rained all day, most days it only rained for a short period of time in the afternoon. It was sometimes sunny but often cloudy although still hot. The sea was too rough to swim in and the beach was very quiet. We still had a great holiday and it wouldn’t put me off going again but I have been in April too and the weather was much better then, blue skies and bright sun everyday compared with cloudy skies in August.

Thanks, both of you. Maybe it's a pot luck thing. We can't afford Ko Samui (because it's not as rainy on that side so still pricy).
Cloudy and warm is great as we are all fair skinned but it would be nice to go in the sea so that's a shame.

Can't speak for August but I'm in Phuket for a few days right now (it's a short-haul destination from where I live) and I think you'll be fine. It's rained most days but the heavy rain only lasts about 10-15 minutes, then if there's more after that it's usually more like drizzle, which is actually quite nice when it's 30 degrees plus! Personally I prefer this part of the world in rainy season as it's just too hot for me when it's sunny all the time, but it is very grey, so if you're looking for deep blue sky and turquoise seas like a travel brochure then you're better off going in winter or early spring.

Thanks for the live info! We're def not sun lovers, more up for sight seeing

We go most years to Phuket in November but we once went in September and we wouldn't chance it again. It's true that the rain can interspersed with dry sunny spells but it can rain for 24 hours straight. It's a heavy sodden rain with high humidity and you can rarely go in the sea as it's choppy and murky.

Lots of bars and restaurants won't be open or very limited service and indoor places can be over lit, freeze air conned and soulless.

I'm sure others may have had better experiences in low season but I wouldn't again

Thank you, that doesn't sound like a great holiday vibe
