Butlins Bognor Regis or Skegness?

I'm planning my next holiday for myself and DS. He will be 2 almost 3 when I'm planning for us to go.
We've done Haven and are doing Parkdean this year so wanting to try Butlins as Centre Parcs is well out of my price range for at least a couple of years.
So far it looks good and both Bognor and Skegness get decent reviews and it's a bargain so I can't complain.
Is a 4 night break enough or would 7 nights be better?
From where I am I'd end up travelling about 3 and a half hours by train for both places so distance isn't a factor.
Someone I'm avoiding works at Minehead so that's why I haven't looked at it.

Been to both when the DC were little (they loved it!) and I would say Skegness is better - it's a bigger site so there just seems to be more to it, ie a bigger fairground, lots of outdoor play areas for the DC, etc.

Willmafrockfit · 03/06/2023 18:29

i would say bognor as the weather may be better

Badtasteflump · 03/06/2023 18:29

Posted too soon - for me four nights was always enough, but the DC would have happily stayed seven!

We did three Christmas trips to Butlins at Skegness when DS was little. We loved it.

Flowersun6 · 03/06/2023 18:58

4 days will definitely be enough. Skegness have a decent beach. I haven't been to the other location.

Skegness has direct & flat access to a good sandy beach & a decent bus service outside the gates so you can easily get to Skegness Town centre where there's a lot of sea-sidey things. You could walk into Ingoldmells from the site too.
There's always loads going on & we found the entertainment very good & far superior to Haven. Swimming was good with some decent slides. It was Covid restrictions when we went so I don't know if you usually have to pre-book activities/shows.
Food & drinks can be expensive but the meal plans are quite good. The accommodation seems to vary massively, we stayed in a gold apartment both times & had no problems. You could probably relax more after your journey if you do 7 nights.

I'd be going around this time next year. Decent weather but not peak holiday prices. Looks like there's more to do in Skegness too. I've seen that there's a seal rehab place in the area and DS loves animals.

Depends if you intend to stay on site or venture out, personally I loathe Skegness as a place and not keen on the area generally - Bognor - Mm - a bit better for trips as I like Chichester .

Sites similar although Skegness probably slightly better but I like the hotel at Bognor

HunterHearstHelmsley · 03/06/2023 21:49

I really don't like the Bognor Butlins. I don't know why, it just felt a bit grimy.

My first choice would be Minehead but that's not an option so 100% Skeggy. I'd look at other resorts rather than go to Bognor.

Fillyfrog · 03/06/2023 21:56

Skegness

HappiDaze · 03/06/2023 22:01

I really liked the Shoreline Hotel at Bognor Butlins but hated the cheapest accommodation which just made my skin crawl including the dining hall which was part of it.

So you can have such different experiences at the same place.

MoreCheesecakeNow · 03/06/2023 22:49

I looked at the Shoreline hotel. If Skegness had a Shoreline hotel I'd be sold completely.

When my daughter was younger, we use to go to Butlins for the Just for Tots, it's for 4 nights & it totally catered for under 5's so CBeebies appearances & other similar things.

Hohofortherobbers · 03/06/2023 23:14

Just back from Bognor, 4 nights is plenty, weather was superb and the beach is lovely, the dc loved Splash. We totally self catered in the refurbished silver apartments, bfast, lunch, dinner and snacks, even coffee and wine. Restaurants on site are v pricey. Only bought evening drinks at entertainment and ice cream on the promenade. Someone I chatted to was charged £30 for 5 coffees at the on site Costa..... Ouch!

Flowersun6 · 04/06/2023 16:34

@Hohofortherobbers agree with onsite restaurants are expensive. I thought the facilities were poor to a Skegness. They did have an Aldi and a M&S near by to stock up.

I would make sure you stay at the branch which has a supermarket to stock up on OP.
