Prescription medication- how to take abroad

What do I do with my prescription medications? Going to Poland in a couple of months.
I have several medications, one which is a controlled drug in this country. I generally put these into a nomad type system a week at a time due to my memory being so poor, then I know I've taken medications for morning, afternoon, evening. This means they are not in the original packets. I would take a prescription slip with me but will it matter they are not in their original packets does anyone know?

Yes they will need to be in their original packets with your name on them, and you’ll need a copy of the repeat prescription list (your pharmacy can print this off for you). And they’ll need to be in your hand luggage. You’ll have to sort them out into doses when you get there. (I have 22 daily medications and I’m travelling to Spain next month and asked about all this).

Do you have to go through customs something to declare? Or where do you show the prescription?

@Xrays that's great, thanks for the advice. And I didn't think about sorting it when I got there, that's how scatty I am 🙄

I agree. If you don't want to take a whole box with you, save one when it's empty, and put just enough for your holiday in it. I used to do that for my late DH's anti-convulsants, that came in 100's.

I travel regularly between the UK and various European countries and have never been asked to declare any medicines. Most airports don't even have a "something to declare" lane - often you have to knock on a window or approach an officer in order to declare anything. Very occasionally there are random stops. If you have your prescription and the drugs are in the original packets there are unlikely to be any issues. (As a side note, when I have on occasion stayed longer than intended and run out of medicine - for example when I unavoidably got stuck abroad because of Covid restrictions and the lack of flights - I was able to get a new packet by showing the local pharmacist my prescription).

Yes I know, I've never been asked to declare anything either.

I wondered what was the actual procedure you are supposed to go through though - if you got stopped randomly without having gone through that part, would it be a problem?

I believe some destinations, for example Dubai, do not allow any meds that contain opiods, like co-codamol, and will confiscate them if they are found on you, even if you have a prescription for them.

Pack them in your hand luggage, & always tell who is scanning it that you have them. I carry copies of the prescriptions too.

I carry 2 Epipens everywhere, & declare them at every stage.

I wasn't asked so far on the three times taken Tamoxifen abroad. I take the strip of med but cut just the number I need or a few extra and take hospital letter.
