Athens plus a beach

Dp and I are gearing up for a big history trip to Athens, maybe in October, maybe 5 days or so. I'd also like to have a pure beach/taverna bit as well. Just the two of us.

Not sure whether just to move out of the city to one of the local beaches (Voula?) or whether to go further afield to an island. Any thoughts?

We drove to the Peloponnese from the Athens area, crossing the Corinth Canal.
Very nice but many beach areas will be fully closed by end October so be careful with your dates.

Also agree with PP suggestion of Delphi - amazing site and views. In fact it was my favourite place of the holiday I had in that region. If time doesn't permit including the Peloponnese, then perhaps Athens, Delphi plus Aegina could be a possible itinerary?

5 nights in Athens is too long in my experience. You can do the historic sites in a day, two at the most, and the rest of the city is pretty uninspiring. I would look into moving on for your beach break. An island would be a lovely contrast.

Also place marking - planning on ending up at Athens on a train trip through Europe thsi autumn, and wondering if there's anywhere else we ought to tag onto the trip..

Where else are you going to on your trip? What's your route ? (I'm nosy Grin)

@ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea have t finalised yet! Possibly Paris-Milan- Italian coast- ferry to mainland Greece. The. Possibly back via an inland route.
But did a successful one last autumn, and are also pondering a Baltic states one.
The trick is to squeeze in as many sleeper trains as possible to max out your available days

If you can get to Tolon there's a lovely beach there

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 24/05/2023 21:48

Sounds exciting @faffadoodledo

Tolon is a small seaside town two hours drive from Athens and half an hour from Mycenae and Epidaurus. And twenty minutes from Nafplio, lots of independent restaurants on the beach,

Beach at Tolon is a bit narrow

But it is lovely in this part of Greece and Tolon is reasonable and well located.
