Watching American football in California

...in July Sad
is there any chance of seeing an American football game in the LA/San Diego area in July? I know it's not the football season, but could there be friendlies or some kind of game I could take my American football loving dc to see during our holiday? Thanks for any ideas!

NFL pre-season doesn't get underway until August, College a week or two earlier, so there will not be any actual games being played in July. NFL training camps usually open in late June and run through July, and they do have days which are open to the public, but AFAIK it's usually a case of season ticket holders being given right of first refusal and they are pretty well subscribed. Only thing I can suggest is that you wait until training camp dates are announced then enquire with the teams if/when they will be having public days.

As far as lower level stuff goes, High School etc, I have no idea because I've never been interested in that level of the sport, but US sports are very much seasonal. There are a few lesser pro/semi-pro American Football leagues, but I don't follow those either and I think the most significant one just finished their season a week or two back.

Thank you, that's really useful to know and the training camps are a good idea to investigate. We didn't book with the intention of seeing a game, but I know he'd love to as he's started playing the game himself.

I've found a game in San Diego that says it's an "indoor American football team", no idea how different that would be!

Maybe I should give up and look for any sport that might in season in July? He'd probably enjoy anything

Baseball? That’s usually pretty child friendly too.

FYI if they love American football then tickets are about to drop for the London games any day now. DH already got his on presale for Wembley. I know, not the same as America, but as a Bears fan DH says it’s better because you don’t have to sit outdoors in a blizzard 🤣

You'll get baseball in July. San Diego probably has the nicest stadium but obviously the LA dodgers are more well known and iconic.

You won't get any NFL.

I forgot about the indoor league!

It's a smaller field and the game isn't quite as physical, but it is American Football of a sort.

MLB is well underway in July and you are spoiled for choice when it comes to teams in SoCal. Dodgers, Angels, Athletics, Padres. Dodgers and Padres games often sell-out, but getting tickets shouldn't really be a problem. It's a great day out, really chilled.

My DS and DH watched a game in the UK last Autumn, I think it may have been at Tottenham football stadium.

DH and DS went to a baseball game in Anaheim, New York Yankees against Los Angelos Angels, they had a fantastic time. The Hotel arranged the tickets. Myself and DS2 stayed at Hotel, but wished we’d gone as it sounded amazing.

This is all great stuff, thank you. Ds has also found an LA Galaxy game ("ordinary" football) during the time we are there. I think I might go for it plus a baseball game.
