Inspiration for first single parent holiday with 17,15 and 10 year old

I’d really like some inspiration. I’ve booked the last few weeks of summer holidays off but have nothing booked. We like the opportunity to do active stuff but also relax. It will be my first single parent holiday so want to make it as nice as possible for the kids. I’m happy to do eurotunnel etc as appreciate flights may be very expensive now. Any ideas? Was thinking of some surfing type stuff in France but really have no idea. Thanks

How about a ski resort? Lots of activities there and not too expensive in the summer.

Mine loved the ferry to France (overnight on the way there, shorter day sailing on the way back). The west coast - Brittany and the Vendee - has good surf and the drive isn’t too bad.

I did it in the second year that I was on my own with my three, slightly younger - we had a blast. Good luck Flowers

Have a look at Aloha camping in France. It’s right on the beach, has an on-site waterpark, jacuzzi, solarium, skate park, two restaurants and loads of activities.
There’s a kids club and a games area just for teens, and in the high season the campsite organises a weekly teen welcome meeting.

Would it be organised surfing or do they do this regularly?

I ask because although DC and I are strong swimmers it's slightly difficult to keep an eye when you're on your own.

Last year my DC and I went to Croatia. We hired mountain bikes/canoes and snorkelled. It was fantastic.

As for beaches, I prefer a cove where the water is calmer and I can see wherever any child is at any given time.

Brittany is lovely. I have a house in Morlaix and there's lots to do there. A huge swimming pool complex with outdoor water garden, bike hire from tourist information office, a market twice a week, beach 20 mins away with volleyball net on sand, a diving platform and shower at top, petang which is free, mini golf course, an aquaduct to go over, 2km from national Forrest and lovely biking routes with picnic seating areas along the way, old medieval houses too. Lots of little shops and many restaurants including fast food if teens want Subway or pizza. At Morlaix you can walk around the port which is decorated with flowers all the way around with a pub half way.

If you want an active holiday, then some ski resorts are a good summer option.

For example, Saalbach-Hinterglemm has cable cars (free if you stay in a hotel offering the Joker Card) mountain biking, hiking, paragliding, an outdoor pool (and many hotels have indoor/outdoor pools too), Europe's largest Go Ape-style climbing park and zip-wires. Nearby at Zell am See there is swimming in the lake, windsurfing, sailing and paddle boarding, and a summer toboggan run on the mountain at Kaprun. Half an hour in the car gets you to white water rafting at Lofer, a huge limestone cave nearby at Lamprechtshöhle in St. Martin bei Lofer, a medieval silver mine at Leogang ...

Temperatures can be in the 30's C - if it gets too hot in the valley just ride up the mountain lifts to where it is cooler. There are plenty of mountain restaurants and picnic areas with benches, tables, and often hammocks or loungers where you can relax and enjoy the views. Flights to Salzburg or Munich, then a train to Zell am See and a taxi or local bus to Saalbach. Very easy to DIY, but also on some tour operators' Lakes & Mountains programmes.

Thanks for the suggestions. We actually had a couple of amazing holidays in ski resorts in Austria as a family. I guess I’m assuming that flight prices will be steep booking now so I’m best looking for channel crossings instead but maybe I’m wrong. I’ll look at Brittany and Alloha but also very intrigued by Croatia but feel we may be limited by flight prices. Re surfing they’ve had a couple of lessons but completely agree although they’re very strong swimmers I appreciate the sea is formidable and don’t want to spend the whole time stressed!! 10 year old is also weaker swimmer and not as invested in surfing!!!

We’ve had a few holidays in Charente maritime as a family. There is loads to do and the body boarding is fantastic. We’ve stayed near at Georges de did one and Palais Sur mer. We broke the journey up each way at the hotel de France in Chartre Sur le Loir which is fab and has a pool. Last year we stayed in Le Mans high was also great, the museum was fab!
Ile de re is also lovely. You can hire bikes for the week and cycle from place to place. Also loved Brittany and my parents

live near Collioure right down South, again lovely! Hope you find something and have a fantastic time
