Self catering..How much should I budget for food?

Looking at going away with DH, DS aged 5 and DS2 aged 2. How much should I budget for a self catering holiday? Was thinking also of going hlaf board so if the food isnt that nice in the complex we can eat out. Have been looking at Spain and Balerics.

TIA

I would say think of a figure and double it.

We went to Menorca last year, just a week self catering, and we spent £500+ on food alone.

Though have since been told it is because we went with First Choice, who have a tendancy to 'move into and area' and sort of take over, then they bump the prices, but who knows?

I know we would have been better off going for the all inclusive we had to cancel due to DS2 illness....!

Meant to say there was DH and I, and our two boys (then 5 years old, and 8 months, 8 month old was only just starting to eat solids)

Think of what you spend on your weekly shop then double it for treats and you can always bring cash home. If you plan to eat in restaurants take credit cards to cover the extra cost, or just allow more similar to as you would spend in the UK.

hmmm, we were thinking of going to a first choice resort, going half board and then eating out in the evenings or lunch as and when. Trying to decide what the best option is as I am worried that we will end up somewhere where the food is horrid if we pay for all inclusive!!!

Have you seen the review guides? I can't remember the names off the top of my head, but if you put 'Holiday Reviews' into Google, it should bring a few up. They aren't always quite as truthful as they would seem (I found quite a few bad reviews, written in broken English, I am guessing they were written by competitors) but if you can weedle your way through them, they do seem to give a good idea of what's what.

I can recommend the Iberostar chain for food quality, I don't work for them honestly! Just really enjoy going to an Iberostar
