Laughalot, I live in Co.Wicklow and have had a mooch around The Carlton and it's gorgeous, very sumptious and the gardens are lovely. However I've read a quite damning review regarding the restaurant, but perhaps Gordon was having a bad day when the Times critic came to call.

There is also, The Brooklodge Hotel in Macreddin Village, Aughrim, Co.wicklow which is again very lovely, very country house and has a superb restaurant which serves all organic food.

Tnog is there anywhere to walk and have a drink on a night or are you tied to the hotel ? How far is it from bray.

The Ritz is very close to Bray, roughly 20 minutes.

It's close to the lovely village of Enniskerry which has bars and restaurants as well as boutiquey clothes shops and craft/gallery type shops, so it's in a fab location for getting out and about.

The Brooklodge in Aughrim is a little further away and a bit more rural.

To get to Bray may take a good 45-60 minutes I suppose, but the village of Aughrim is very pretty and has a lovely riverwalk.

If you google you will see that the Brooklodge has created a little village within it's grounds with a bar and shop selling clothes and crafts, and there are stables and chickens roaming about the grounds. It also has a Spa.

Hope that in some way helps and I hope you have a wonderful 30th birthday

feel free in fact you could pick me up from the airport. Think we are going to hire a car that means me and dh will be divorced before we get there.

Hi, can I butt into this thread since we have locals on board?
I have some american friends coming over to stay with us for easter and the week after. They'd like us all to go somewhere for 3 or 4 days after Easter. "All" being me, dh and our 4 kids (10 - 2), and him and his 2 kids (7 and 5). He's suggested getting a ferry to ireland, staying somewhere nice and seeing some sights. I thought Rosslare and Wexford/Wicklow - but not sure where to stay or what to see. What would you do? Assume budget isn't a problem. Rent a house and drive around? Stay in a hotel (one with a swimming pool would be nice, and it would be good to be able to have someone else cooking as opposed to muggins here...) and if so which one?

All suggestions very gratefully received. I had a look at the Brooklodge but it is difficult to see if it is likely to be kid friendly and I don't know what there is to do around there.... please help!

Or is Dublin fun with kids?
