What proof does travel insurance need for positive covid test?

Going on holiday on Tuesday and 2 out of 4 of us have been really ill & consequently tested positive with covid from lateral flow tests. Travel insurance says it covers us if we are diagnosed with covid but doesn't say what proof is required and their phone lines aren't open now till Monday.

Has anyone been through this scenario? What proof was required? Are the lateral flow tests enough?

Are there still places that do covid tests for travel?

You might need to pay for tests

Your insurance should have a 24 hour helpline

Their normal customer services may be closed but they'll have a 24 hour claim line, which is effectively what you're doing. They'll be able to advise on what proof you need to send.

You might be fine by Tuesday, why do you need to cancel?

IIRR you need to have a PCR test result, not LFT, for travel insurance. There are places you can go and get them done but you will need to pay. You can have them done within a short period of time if necessary.

I think you're supposed to be a certain number of days past testing positive, though if you've only taken an LFT and not reported it, then no one will be aware.

I don’t think I’d cancel a holiday for covid these days. Mask up for the journey, job done.

Last year DS tested positive 10 days before we were due to travel on holiday with us. I rang the insurer just in case he ended up too ill or still positive. They said they would need a PCR. I paid privately for one to be delivered to his house. He was negative and fine in the end but I could have cancelled and got a refund.

I absolutely would have cancelled if he had still been positive.
