Have been looking at holidays, and it seems it might be just as cheap to go abroad as go away in the UK.

I have never been abroad before and have no idea where is best to go.

My budget is small, and there would be 2 adults and 3 children (all over 5). Would like either a self catering apartment on a nice child friendly resort, or if the budget would stretch, a villa with pool maybe.

Looking at begginning of Sept (yes i know, in school time) and don't realy want to be travelling for anymore than 2 hours.

Oh, also importantly, neither me or my mum drive and so we need to be near shops, resturants and a beach if poss.

Thanks

you might want to look here www.portofelice.it it's where we are going in August school holidays - £1000 for the 4 of us - kids are free, pay for the first 2 adults and extra adults are about £90 with Camping Life - they also do cheaper sites in Italy and Portugal (one at lake Maggiore was only £600 for the 4 of us in August but not sure how close to airports etc). these prices are without any discount as we used Tesco vouchers so it would be cheaper for you as it's out of season and you would get some discount off it.. Got 4 flights to venice for £300 with BA. taxi to/from airport about 70 euros each way or there is a local bus direct from airport to campsite. have posted more details on your other thread about it and another French site which is do-able without a car.

Good luck!

Just another thought - you could try Duinrell in Wassennaar in the Netherlands. You can get there directly by bus from Amsterdam - Dutch transport pretty greatr. Martianbishop wrote a fab review on it so t=read that. It's fab!! Restauarants on site aren't great but htere are some really gorgeous ones 10mins walk away in town. There's more than enought to keep you occupied there and trips to Amsterdam etc.

If you are interested in Salou then this place is supposed to be fab. Haven't been myself yet but I know people who have and they raved about it. It has a good range of accommodation, mobile homes and bungalows, that you can book direct. Thomson al Fresco and Keycamp have mobiles on this site too.

Alternatively, I would second Leslaki and highly recommend Duinrell. It's fantastic. We book direct but all the major mobile home companies are there.

I have just seen your other thread about needing a car. You would definitely NOT need a car for Sanguli. It's close to Reus airport so a taxi or bus would get you there and it's effectively in Salou, I think the centre of town is about 15 minutes walk but there are restaurants and bars etc. all around. Afaik there is a good bus service to Port Aventura theme park from just outside the campsite entrance too. And the beach is accross the road! Come to think of it, I don't know why I haven't been yet myself
