Mexico in July/August

A friend and I are planning on going away to Mexico for 2 weeks at the end of July/start of August (teachers so can't go earlier). Has anyone been at this time? I know it's the rainy season but what's it really like at that time? Any recommendations of where to go?
TIA!

Two words - hot and humid. For me, the humidity was a killer. Do your excursions and shopping in the morning and spend the afternoons "hydrating" by the pool. It’s also hurricane season apparently, although we didn’t have one. I know Palace Resorts has a hurricane policy for cancellations and re-booking (I don't know the details off hand). We got the odd tropical rains , where there is a mad downpour for 5 minutes , then the sun comes and it is boiling again .

Ah I was worried someone would say that 🤦🏻‍♀️ we went to Japan in the summer a few years ago and the humidity was a killer. We would love to do a bit of exploring - cenotes/temple ruins etc. - but I'm also worried about it being rainy season. My friend is super keen but I'm having second thoughts.

Rainy season doesn't usually mean full days of rain. It can often be one heavy shower a day(usually around the same time) and be over with quite quickly.

If you're lucky you can time it with a siesta and not let it ruin your day.

Agree at doing trips in the morning when you can.

Have a lovely time.

We went two weeks in August Riviera Maya and weather was great! A couple of afternoons it rained for an hour or so but generally was fine.

Best holiday so far!!!

Went last year to cancun, tulum, mexico city, puerto escondido and it barely rained. Maybe a bit in tulum as its the jungle but only for an hour or two. Not constant rain

Maya Riviera and Playa del Carmen are lovely.

So glad to read this, we are going to RM in August this year, can't wait! The hotel is Grand Sirenis

OP - we are going in August, I plan to just prepare myself with mozzie spray and do lots of chilling out.

Book it!

We've been twice in July and other times of year too. We actually got married in July in playa del carmen. We had one torrential rain pour for 2 hours and that was it for the whole 10 days. And the time before we had no rain whatsoever.
It is hot and humid. But I managed in a full wedding dress in 37 degree heat on the beach so can't be so bad. It is super beautiful.

i was in playacar last august at the end mind you and it rained 1 day fully

We went to Riviera Maya last August.
Had a couple of cracking showers but they were great fun. Only lasted a few minutes.
It was lovely and warm so be prepared for the heat. It's absolutely amazing there and I'd go back in a heartbeat.

I'd think carefully about Mexico at the moment. The US has put out warnings telling US citizens not to go on holiday there this year due to the extremely high risk level at the moment. There is a lot of organised crime and a high level of ransom kidnappings by organised gangs.

I went to Mexico a couple of years ago and also took my kids so I have nothing against Mexico as a holiday destination per se.

Exactly the same! We’ve been twice in school holidays and only ever had short rain showers (they had to run round pegging down the umbrellas though) I love Mexico

Thanks everyone! Such great news. This is planned for 2024 so will keep an eye on the political situation but other than that you have all renewed my confidence in Mexico in the summer!
