EasyJet Dynamic Pricing

SoGladofYou · 03/05/2023 16:32

Can anyone tell me how this works please? Last night, we looked at a set of flights at one price but they seemed to have gone up slightly when we looked again at 7 am this morning. Will the prices just go up each time we look or do they go up and down depending on how many bookings they are taking?
Any information would be very much appreciated 😌

They normally go up as they sell.

midgemadgemodge · 03/05/2023 16:45

I don't know how easyJet do theirs but it might be worth rebooting your hub and clearing your cache and looking again

Plump82 · 03/05/2023 16:48

The more in demand they are, the higher the price goes. That's why if you want a bargain you need to get in there when they're released. For example I got return flights for 2 people for £191 Amsterdam as soon as they were released. We go in Feb and I've just checked and they've only increased by £4 because I'm assuming not many people want flights to Amsterdam in Feb! But a girl I work with tried for flights to somewhere in Spain over Christmas and watched the flights increase before her eyes.

JuneShitfield · 03/05/2023 16:52

EasyJet has long used a basic form of dynamic pricing on ticket costs.

But recently they've got a lot more sophisticated with it — their dynamic pricing models are now very complex and can flex at an individual level, based on their calculation of what you might be willing to pay for that seat.

It factors in things like your previous purchase history (if you have any) and other profile-able behaviour. Plus broader stuff like availability/inventory, special events and seasonality.

At one level, it's still as simple as — the fewer seats remain unsold, the more expensive they'll get. But there's a lot more being fed into the pricing modelling now too.

As I understand it, they use dynamic pricing on hold baggage costs now too.

Mostly done with AI, natch.

Choconut · 03/05/2023 21:20

I booked everything for this year back in September/October, whenever they were released. We're going to Greece, Spain, Italy and Croatia all in school holidays and I didn't pay more than £150pp. I refuse to go on flights that cost more than £150pp to Europe!
Try searching Incognito and see if the prices are the same.

SoGladofYou · 04/05/2023 22:03

Thank you everyone, especially @JuneShitfield

I suppose I must be quite naive, but I am truly shocked that businesses are allowed to spy on innocent punters in this way and charge what they damn well please based on what they think someone might pay. Oh Brave New World…

That’s not true, the flights on release day are often more expensive as they know the people looking will be keen. £191 for 2 to Amsterdam is not cheap, I’ve seen return fares as low as £30 for amsterdam from various U.K. airports

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 05/05/2023 07:18

Go to AirHint. Put in the flights you want to track and your email. They'll let you know what they predict will happen with flights and send you emails when the price goes up or down, along with a "wait" or "book now" message.

I used it to track a handful of Ryan Air flights and the prices went up and down every week on the same routes.

gogohmm · 05/05/2023 07:20

It's a bit complicated but prices are usually mid level on release day then drop if they haven't sold that many before climbing as the plane fills. I've just paid £22.50 each way to Ibiza but off peak, same route is £150 each way in summer

Bet those UK airports weren't Glasgow where it's impossible these days to get £30 flights these days. And when was this, before the pandemic?

Funnily enough I’ve just booked return flights from Edinburgh to Denmark for £25 per person in 3 weeks time with Ryanair.

I haven’t priced Glasgow specifically but the £30 Amsterdam returns I’ve seen have been from Manchester and Gatwick, I didn’t look for Glasgow but I seem to remember Glasgow wasn’t much more.

Well looks like you got a bargain as theyre certainly not that price now. Edinburgh is always much cheaper than Glasgow.

£30 from Manchester and Gatwick aren't much use for people in Scotland 😕 would love to know where you saw similar from Glasgow as I got the flights the day the flights were released for the dates I need at about 5am and as I said previously they've only went up by £4. Haven't seen cheaper and I do check as I like to torture myself! KLM are dearer.

booking the day of release is just daft, no offence but they know these people will be the ones that are desperate to go somewhere and the price will be mid to high range. I have flights from Glasgow to Tenerife in October for £80 each return, looking forward to some winter sun. No offence but you seem dry defeatest and negative, try a bit harder, think a bit smarter and you’ll find bargains too, booking on release day though is a total waste of time. I used to work in the aviation industry in a senior role, I know what I’m talking about. Bargains are out there.

andthe flights I quoted from Edinburgh to Denmark are still £25 each return, if you know how/where to book ;-)

Plump82 · 05/05/2023 17:06

Well I don't know to where to book so clearly I'm never going to find them! Big senior role in the aviation industry isn't your average Joe booking flights so please stop being so high and mighty.
And also please stop being so offensive. We're talking about flights for fucks sake so no need for the name calling.

I use a website that anyone can use that I found through looking for cheap flights like anyone else. Your attitude stinks, glad I’m unlikely to be sat next to you on a plane

This is not true in my experience . Summer and Easter flights almost never go down in price from release day .
Maybe just before the time they might drop a little but never revert to ‘release day’ prices .
Non peak is different.
I flight watch and check all the aps many times a day 😎!

You can get bargains but not at peak times e.g. any time near any of the school holidays or half terms, which wipes out most of the year as kids are on half term every 6-ish weeks!

Inyournightgarden · 05/05/2023 18:45

I respectfully disagree, I fly regularly, 1-5 round trips a month, sometimes away day sometimes longer, and i never book on release days, never pay more than £90 return within Europe with low cost carriers, regardless of time of year

FoodieToo · 05/05/2023 21:42

Inyournightgarden are you travelling to high demand destinations like Greece, Spain/Italy in July/ August ? Or any other school holiday times ?

I am not 'dissing' your experience at all, it's just not my experience for the most part .

You may get better prices on city break type places post release day ? But I have never seen it on the high demand , school holiday destinations.

dudsville · 05/05/2023 21:45

Always clear your cache with looking at flights between searches.

Yes absolutely I am. I travel a lot, sometimes as a family, sometimes for work and sometimes in relation to a hobby. There is always, always a way to find cheap flights. You may have to be flexible about times, and where you fly from though. If you stubbornly commit to one airport forget it, but if you take her attitude I have which is that the U.K. really isn’t that big, nowhere isn’t drivesble from anywhere else, you can save a fortune. I booked flight with easyjet this summer from Bristol to Rhodes and back (august), and got them for under £100 each return. Manchester same days was £450+

FoodieToo · 05/05/2023 22:00

Yes we live in Dublin but travel through the UK a lot as there is much better choice and value to be had as we are a family of 7 .
Interestingly though, this summer I got better value going Dublin - Paris - Crete with Easyjet . Would usually go through Gatwick for our main holiday of the year .

What website do you use, please?

Is it sky scanner? I've never had much luck with that.

Strangely I find the On The Beach search function to be really good.

A few times I've put in "anywhere" and some dates, filtered by price, spotted some really cheap flights, then booked them direct with the airline.
