We’re going to Mexico for ten days next Feb.
I’m pretty good with putting together trips but am looking for real life experience of places within a few hours of cancun - we want to travel a bit and get a bit away from the tourist places. We will do a bit of all inclusive in cancun either end of the trip, but have also looked at tulum, playa del carmen and puerto morelos .
There’s also holbox island but I haven’t worked out a way to get there. I don’t want to drive especially.

Id love to hear from people who’ve been 😀

Also, I'm thinking of doing a few nights in Mexico City in the middle with cheap internal flights, so something like 3 nights in Valladolid, 3 in Mexico City and 4 in Tulum - not sure if it's worthwhile or not though...

I've been to Mexico City a few times. Not sure if I'd go out of my way to stay there tbh, it's so hectic, but if I did I would go to Frida Khalo's house and the floating markets.

In Oaxaca you have beautiful towns and the coast is amazing, e.g. Mazunte, with beach huts. It's very different to the Caribbean coast, not tropical, more surf, and not built up. Mexican food is amazing, especially the street food, so eat constantly!

I have to say the food is a major draw!

OK, so maybe we should split the time equally between Yucatan/Quintana Roo and Oaxaca region?

Sounds amazing.
If you only had 10 days (14 at a push) which bits would you keep in from your trip?

Probably Oaxaca, Merida and then some beaches / islands in the yucatan. Palenque is amazing but not particularly easy to get to so would take a chunk out of a shorter holiday.

Amazing, really appreciate your view. It's so hard to get a sense of a place from google and knowing you may only get one chance to visit a country puts the pressure on to get it right.
