We’re heading to Venice in a few weeks and I wondered if anyone has any recommendations of great restaurants they’ve been to in Venice for lunch or dinner?

Terrible website and Osteria is a bit of a misnomer as it wasn't cheap but the food was delicious and it's easy to find.

Just got back from Venice today. I think the restaurants we ate in were mainly for tourists, unless you’re staying out a bit I think that’s pretty much the case. They all had more or less the same menu.

Bear in mind(if you’ve not been to Italy) the cover charge (coperto) - most restaurants add this as standard, it will vary from 3 euros per person through to 8 euros depending on the location.

We paid around 24 to 30 euros for a bottle of Pinot Grigio as well. Only had one course as were not big eaters.

4 day trip with flights, hotels, water bus and vapareto tickets, Doges palace etc, food and drink was just under £2000 for 2 people. Went to Florence last year for 3 days and that was around £1000 for comparison.

Venice is very crowded! Lots of school groups there this week as well.

hope this helps anyone who is going soon.

We ate here this time last year. It's a tiny place and very popular so you need to book well in advance.

Also, there are lots of great restaurants that aren't touristy but they are expensive.

Have a lovely time.

Local in Venice here ... Just go off the beaten track and lots of choice . I avoid any place that has the dreaded words menu turistico My Fave are Casa Bonita in Cannaregio , Rose Rosse , Calle della Mandorla, La Caravella In Via XX2 Marzo l Timon for steak or chichetti, Rio di San Trovaso for some great Chichetti , Da Nico on the Zattere for gelato . Pushing the boat out Locanda Cipriani on Torcello, Sorry but I wouldn[t drink bottled wine but local caraffe wine its normally from the Valpolicella or prosecco country anyway. Yes to alle Testiere as well ...

Thank you for all the suggestions, we’re going in just under three weeks so I’ll have a good look, I can’t wait!

@Rosa was just trying to be helpful with a price for a bottle of wine. I’m sure as a local you know much more about Italian wine than myself.

Perhaps remember that us tourists support Venice financially by spending our hard earned cash in the city, no matter where we eat.

@annielou55 Comment was aimed to say that the carafe wine is fine to drink ......- No need to remind me about tourists without them my family and I would be destitute - and that is NOT scarcastic Just thought of another -flying saucer thin based pizza al amfora in Santa Croce
