I've got a 3-night break booked with friends for this winter. What should we see?Where should we go?

Canal St. Martin. Jardin des Plantes, Arenes de Lutece, the Grand Mosque with a hamam, Rue Mouffetard and Place du Contrescarpe, the Pantheon (I lumped all those together because they're in the same area).

Ile de la Cite- visit Sainte Chapelle, see how the rebuilding of Notre Dame is getting on (slowly!!), maybe take a boat trip from Pont Neuf, visit Ile St Louis.

The Marais, and get a falafel on Rue des Rosiers.

Montmartre.

Avoid the fucking Eiffel Tower at all costs 🙄

Montparnasse tower

Marsyas · 28/04/2023 15:58

I love the Musee d'Orsay

Rauha · 28/04/2023 16:00

Montmartre is my favourite part of Paris.

BeautifulWar · 28/04/2023 16:20

Montmartre is my favourite part of Paris.

Mine too! Sacre Coeur is lovely - I'd go there any day over the Eiffel Tower.

mrsfeatherbottom · 28/04/2023 16:23

I love Musee Rodin.

Montparnasse Tower for nice views without the big queues at the Eiffel Tower.

Bertillon on Ile de La Cité for yummy ice cream and sorbets.

NotEvenSlightlyReasonable · 28/04/2023 16:30

Sainte Chapelle is jaw droppingly beautiful

TheABC · 28/04/2023 20:10

<Makes notes> Thanks, everyone. It sounds like I need more than three days!

Montmartre - yay
Eiffel tower - nay. TBF, I think we can see it from our apartment anyway.

Any tips for eating out?

Erm....this is an off the wall one and probably only applicable if you're vegetarian, but....France still doesn't "do" vegetarians. In 2023. Even in Paris 🙄.

So, as a vegetarian, I find the South Indian thali places near the Gare du Nord a godsend.

Former Paris dweller here!

I'm a big fan of the 5e arrondissement. It was the one I lived in in fact. Jardin du Luxembourg, the Pantheon, bars, markets, university areas. I used to go to La Mosquée frequently for dinner or mint tea and cake. It was so beautiful there.

Not far from St Germain and Notre Dame either.

All the galleries obviously. There really aren't any bad ones.

I know people love Montmartre, Sacre Coeur and Pigalle. I like it too, but it isn't my favourite part of Paris.

The Marais is fab too. Totally agree with that recommendation

Kong was all the rage when I lived there. I went a couple of times and it was nice enough, but pricey and occasionally ran into twatty waiting staff and diners (the twatty diners were never Parisian)

ShinyShinyShinyBootsOfLeather · 28/04/2023 20:49

Agree with avoiding the Eiffel tower

The Musee du Moyen-Age is amazing (Medieval Museum). The tapestries and stained glass just take your breath away. Plus they have a fabulous medieval herb garden that I spent about an hour in!

I lived there in the 90s and my BF's friend visited who was vegan. That was fun trying to find him food in restaurants!

Loulou Montmartre and La Mascotte, also Montmartre

For value, the Bouillon Pigalle

L'As du Falafel, Rue des Rosiers

Chartier for lunch, food isn’t amazing but the surrounds are gorgeous (old style Parisian brasserie) and I love the old style waiters.
My favourite museum is the Musee Rodin - nicest in Spring and Autumn.
