Beginners guide to Siam Park (Tenerife)

MissDollyMix · 27/04/2023 17:37

Off to Tenerife in a couple of weeks and would love to take the kids (10+12) to Siam Park. However, never been to Tenerife before and feeling a little overwhelmed by the thought of navigating a busy water park! Can any wise Mumsnetters who have been before give me some tips and hacks? Google searching reveals that arriving early is a good idea (but what time?) Is it best to buy tickets in advance? Is it best to buy the basic tickets or should I upgrade to some of the fancier options? Lockers, towels, parking???!!! Best rides to head for? Queue jump tickets? Any help would be gratefully received! Thanks.

Hi! Depending on where you're staying there's a free bus that'll take you straight to the door and then back to your resort (definitely in Los Cristianos, Playa de las Américas and Costa Adeje).

I don't usually pay for lockers and just put my stuff on a sun lounger at the man made Beach - take your own towel. You can't take your own food and drinks in so won't have much to carry.

I think the park opens at 10am and the tickets are slightly cheaper if bought in advance. You can also usually do a duo ticket with Loro Parque if that is your thing.

Most of the queueing areas are shaded so you can leave flip flops at the bottom of the slide and not burn your feet. Even at peak times you won't have huge long waits for slides but they have signs indicating how long to wait from that position.

Opens at 10am.
quicker to gain entrance if tickets bought in advance.
Everyone is funnelled past park photographers to have pictures with parrots but on the Wednesday we went a month ago, most people were keeping their heads down and shuffling past. Stay on the right as you approach the photographers to avoid going down the left hand narrower parrot shoot!

You were able to buy fast pass inside the park , €18 the day we were there , I wonder if the price varies depending on how many tickets are pre sold.

buy water shoes from home bargains, decathlon, sports direct, Amazon and take them into the park. You can stay in them all day. Any footwear like flip flops or sliders is banned from the rides, but water shoes are allowed, €10 a pair if you buy them inside.

people do take food and drink in, no one was checking.
if it’s snacks, a bottle of water, you’re fine.
roll up carrying a hamper and ice box , then no, you’ll be leaving them behind.

we found the food ( ham, cheese baguette ) fresh and tasty for around €4.

You need water shoes, the pavements when we went (August) were incredibly hot.

We put our stuff in the lockers provided and didn't bother with getting a sun bed but just queued for the slides.

We liked the lazy River best and there's a section where it splits where you need to go to the left and then it takes you on a second track where you slide through the aquarium tunnel.

The big tidal wave but is good fun but not for weak swimmers especially because I saw lots of small people being pushed under the water (by accident) by adults as the wave carried them. There is a little tidal pool for younger children

Great place!
Always buy tickets in advance if you know what day you are going.
I would def get a locker as I worry about phone and keys being stolen.
Look at the map to get a idea of the layout on their website.
Watch some YouTube videos on it - before a holiday we always watch some videos while eating dinner - get so many tips and builds the excitement!

tanstaafl · 28/04/2023 09:30

Meant to add the various lockers locations and the various changing room/showers are in different places. I guess to avoid gridlock.
The big lockers easily hold two rucksacks.

have a look on the siampark website for options for VIPing your trip.

BarbaraofSeville · 28/04/2023 09:32

We've had bags checked for food and drink, but it wasn't very thorough, so hide things at the bottom or in pockets to avoid detection.

I think you can possibly pay slightly more for a ticket that allows a repeat visit, so something to consider if you're likely to want to do that.

Before you go, look around for discount codes/offers anywhere where there's leaflets out, there's flyers all over the place in the local area.

I typed a very detailed reply & then lost it so in summary:
Book tickets in advance
Get a taxi there before opening time (free bus is usually heaving)
Wrap bottles of water in rolled towels as they usually do bag checks
Walk past photographer & go straight to wave pool area & claim sun beds with towels/bags
Get a locker
Leave everything & go straight to rides
Return to sun beds whenever you need a break/to go in wave pool
Lazy river is awesome for a bit of chill time

Minervia · 29/04/2023 07:29

Get tickets in advance, arrive early, head straight to the beach near the wave pool..there are lockers there and when we were there they were selling the fast pass tickets from the lockers. They only have so many fast pass tickets so definitely get early if you are getting them. We thought they were worth it but we were height of summer holidays and it was busy. We managed to get on everything. It was a great day. We got sunbeds down that end too and also had lunch. It was a good base for us.

rookiemere · 29/04/2023 08:00

Go early in the week as you can buy a return day ticket for 18 euros or something like that.
Lunch is actually quite nice you can get roast chicken with vegetables.

CrispsnDips · 29/04/2023 08:14

Not much to add…just remember the warning sound when the waves start..it’s fantastic! We took a 17 year old, 16 year old, 4 and 3 year old and there was something for everyone…even lovely sun loungers when I wanted to relax for a bit.

vix_85 · 29/04/2023 08:16

Definitely need water shoes and good sun block. Also the queue jump were well worth it....get them early so you have them, but don't start using them until the afternoon when the rides get busy.

Such an awesome trip out; enjoy!

HydrangeaFairy · 29/04/2023 11:54

Its fabulous, been many times with teens.
Buy tickets in advance and get a taxi to arrive before it opens.
When you get through ignore the people trying to photograph you and head as fast as possible to the wave pool beach. Bag sunbeds there and send one person to get lockers (next to beach) relax. It a good base for the rest of the park.
They don't allow you to take food and drink in and will search bags so you might risk it or not. There's a big cafe next to the beach where you can fuel the children with chips.
Flip flops are fine, dump at the edge of each ride and retrieve on exit.

QueSyrahSyrah · 29/04/2023 13:04

You've had some great tips here already but a big yes to water shoes (they sell them there but they're £££ so get some in advance if you don't already have them. Usually cheap as chips at Sports Direct).

I've been a couple of times and water shoes are a game changer in terms of not having to constantly return to the entrance to retrieve your shoes, as not all exits and entrances are in the same place. The ground can be scorching hot in summer.

You'll have a great time OP, your kids are the perfect ages for it. I typically hate water parks after a bad experience in Crete as a kid but I adore Siam Park.

MallMoo · 29/04/2023 13:14

Not much to contribute except water shoes or cheap flip flops! Me and DP went years ago and left our shoes on the rack at the start of the queue for a slide and when we got back somebody had nicked DP sliders 🤣 they weren’t designer but we’re a quite nice pair so we had to take a trip to the gift shop for some Siam Park flip flops

MissDollyMix · 05/05/2023 17:54

Thanks so much for the tips everyone!

We did the cheap return second day but I have a feeling we needed to show our passports to avail of the tickets so worth checking as you’ll want to go more than once. this was pre covid though

BattleofBeamfleot · 30/05/2023 19:48

Big thanks to OP for starting this thread; it's been a lifesaver this week.

Here's my experience:

The water shoes at the park weren't that expensive (€9.99) so if you get there and find yours don't fit, don't worry about it and just get a new pair. It's worth it. That said, DS did not bother to wear his much of the day and there were some piggy backs needed to go up the hills.

I did 19000 steps that day, most of it uphill, some of it with a child onboard, and that's not including the time I dozed off for half an hour when they went in the wave pool. The fast pass is worth it for not queuing but it means that you will climb the stairs with no breaks like the people queuing have. Stamina a must.

We decided not to do a second day although that was the original plan - the kids age 8 and 10 found it hard going, especially around lunchtime. It took "one last ride" at 2-3pm to inject a much needed adrenaline dose to get enthusiasm going again and then we stayed til the last wave series.

The wave pool has 10 waves 2 min apart starting at 20 minutes to the hour, and then ceases on the hour for 40 minutes. If your kids enjoy that, you can use it to time your day ("we have 30 minutes til the next lot of waves; let's do The Dragon and come back") otherwise you'll probably find yourself spending your whole day near the wave pool.

The Tower of Terror is over 14s only. DD8 was devastated not to be allowed on it. You get to not give it any headspace. Whew!

Similarly I saw lots of too-small kids being pulled out of line at the top of the queues to be re-measured and sent back down; the staff are pretty safety-conscious so if it says minimum height 125cm don't waste an hour chancing it in the queue because they will check.

The food was really good, much to my surprise- DD hoovered up the pizza, DS10 ate every scrap of the Thai chicken curry, DH said the burger was good, and I had a salad which was reasonably priced and all had plenty when we shared some chips too.

The slides are RAG rated for difficulty, which means the red ones likely have a drop, but not more than one so if like me you are only going on these things to humour your children then just keep your eyes shut and you'll be fine.

We got horribly sunburned. It feels colder in the water than it really is, and the May half term is so early in the season no one has any tolerance built up. Suncream. Rash vests. Shade. Hats.

Place marking

MangoBlink · 02/07/2025 22:54

I realise this hasn't been posted on for a while, but does anyone have clear instructions on how to get to Siam Beach upon entry.
I was there in June and couldn't work out how to get there
We're going back in August so any help appreciated xx

tanstaafl · 03/07/2025 09:19

@MangoBlink

I’ll assume you’ve not been before, just ignore advice if you know it.
In August the beach area will be baking and unless you’re there at opening you might not guarantee brollies for shade.
Buy water shoes for everyone, the paths will be scorching as the day goes on, flip flops and sliders are not allowed on the rides but water shoes are (because they’re fixed to your feet ) and you can buy them there for €10 a pair.

Anyway, go to Siampark.net, click on the three lines top right, scroll down, pick 360 Tour. You’ll notice the beach area far right as it zooms in.

These directions are based on the 360 view, and there’s signs about the park for all the rides, toilets, shops and eateries.

Now the direct route is to turn right immediately after entrance and walk up the gently sloped path to the beach area. But from experience of visits in the last few years, at opening, they want everyone to go left so there’s staff on the right kind of blocking that route. Assuming you’re funnelled to the left, push politely past any queuing for the parrot photo, turn right onto the ‘shopping island’ and go right again through the shops. You’re heading for the orange 3 roof building at the end of the island.
when you get to it, it’s the main lockers and changing room. Ignore them unless you need to buy water shoes and keep following the path , passing the main entrance to the lazy river on your left.
If you rotate the 360 map, zoom in / out you can now see how close you are to the beach. Follow the curved path up and left and you come out at the beach with the orange topped fast food building on your right and lockers and toilets on your left.

if however you want a shaded area to base yourself, then as you stepped onto the shopping island earlier, stay left and cross another slightly zig zag bridge onto a slim tree covered island. On the right will be an area with beds under shade of the trees.

Finally, goggles are not allowed in the wave pool, not even sure glasses are allowed.

Hope I didn’t bore you with all that, have a great time.

What a fabulous reply, super appreciative thank you xx

HydrangeaFairy · 03/07/2025 13:05

@MangoBlink
That reply was spot on. All I would add is to get there before opening time so you can charge through and get first dibs on spots at the beach. We always liked that as a base because of proximity to lockers and food. With young teenagers one adult would stay at base camp and they were under orders to come back and check in every couple of hours.

Assuming you’re funnelled to the left, push politely past any queuing for the parrot photo
They really really want you to have that parrot photo and iimply that you have to go that way. We politely but firmly squeeze past.
