Me and DP have looked online and nothing's clear!

OP posts:
NowZeusHasLainWithLeda · 22/04/2023 11:56

As British Citizens? No.

HowManySunflowers · 22/04/2023 12:00

No, just valid passports.

Birleygirl · 22/04/2023 12:04

Not yet, but you will at some point in the next year. There will be the equivalent of an American esta. It will be £7 for those over 18 and free to those under 18 and over 60. It will be valid for three years. This was talked about before Brexit and will be for everyone who is not an eu citizen. So it's not just British people this affects.

Its really very clear that you do not. A simple google of "Do british people need a visa for spain" would get you the information.

That is not at all correct.

whats incorrect about it

dementedpixie · 22/04/2023 12:18

Apparently from the end of 2023/start of 2024 passengers from the UK will need to apply for a ETIAS visa waiver for travelling in Europe

dementedpixie · 22/04/2023 12:19

So @BeautyGoesToBenidorm you will not need a visa for travelling to Spain in June

GCAcademic · 22/04/2023 12:22

For a start, ETIAS is not a visa. And many people who are not British will not be eligible for it; they will still need to apply, via a Consulate, for a Schengen visa.

bellinisurge · 22/04/2023 12:23

I think it's all being a bit delayed for the Paris Olympics but, yes, you will need an ESTA like visa eventually [irritating smug grin of Irish passport holder]

Erm.... https://travel-europe.europa.eu/etias_en this is quite clear. It is coming. I travel lot within Europe so I've been keeping an eye on this.

New requirements to travel to Europe

ETIAS

Official EU website on ETIAS, the new travel authorisation for visa-exempt travellers to enter 30 European countries. Applications should be filled in this website from 2024.

It’s pretty much correct Confused

Cost will be €7, lasts for 3 years, no fees for under 18s and over 70s. Starts in 2024.

New requirements to travel to Europe

What is ETIAS

The rules of travel to Europe have changed. Starting from 2024, some 1.4 billion people from over 60 visa-exempt countries are required to have a travel authorisation to enter most European countries.

ETIAS is not for everyone who is not an EU citizen. It is for non visa required third country nationals, and not even all of them. And not all British people will need one, either.

Which UK passport holders won’t need one?

Which UK passport holders won’t need one?

I'm a UK passport holder, I won't need one. I'm both a family member of an EU citizen and have a residency card for an EU country. I retain freedom of movement and do not require an ETIAS.

Not many UK passport holders will fall into that category though.

UK family members of EU citizens without a residency permit will still need an ETIAS.

Almost a million UK citizens live in the EU. They'll all have residence permits. They'll all be exempt.

Well yes. Surely that’s the point about jumping through the hoops to get residency.

But for UK citizens resident in the UK looking to visit Europe on holiday, there are very people who won’t need an ETIAS.

50percentNamaste50percentGoFuckYourself · 22/04/2023 13:05

That wasn't the only point I corrected, but ok.

And there were no hoops, it was a very simple process.

Easy to get residency because you have an EU spouse.

Definitely not easy if you’re not married to an EU citizen and post 1st Jan 2021.

Your specific circumstances were not relevant to OP’s question.

Mine and many others wre relevant to my correction of another posters erroneous information. PP stated that all non EU citizens will need an ETIAS, that was not at all the case.
