Weather in Lanzarote

Hi all! We are off to Lanzarote for the first time this summer. However, all I’ve heard seen we booked is how bad the weather is. Especially the wind! We are away end of July - beginning of august. Anyone been this time of year and can fill me with hope? Because i feel gutted at all the comments so far :(

Ah I feel a bit more optimistic now! We’ll be in PdC

We've been in July a few years ago- yes it is windy but it was very welcome as it would have been too hot without. I got caught out and didn't put any sunscreen on my legs as a really wanted them to tan! Dear God I was burned to a crisp Shock
Also needed a cover up- cardi/hoody in the evenings. Loved it there though- near Puerto Del Carmen.

PDC is big and much denser populated than other resorts. If you stay in higher areas, it maybe breezy in eves.

I went to playa Blanca sort of area in Feb and we had great weather - felt much hotter than the temperatures listed on the forecast apps. Only one windy day - the mornings felt fresh but by about 11 everyday it has hot enough for a bikini/swim.
Most of the hotels are adapted for the wind and they have large glass walls that act as windbreakers or pool areas built lower into the ground so there is a sort of windbreak situation going on even on windy days.

I’ve been in July and yes it was quite windy but very hot so the wind was welcome.

Just make sure you don’t take loads of lightweight skater style dresses like I did as you end up walking round clinging to your dress to stop it blowing! Long dresses were much better in the evenings!

PdC will be gorgeous in August. Am quite near there all this week ( going back tomorrow) and it’s lovely even now in April. Have been in August previously and it’s been marvellous. Don’t give this concern another thought- it will be beautiful

We went to Lanzarote once. Never again! The sun was shining but the wind was something else. Every day the tables and chairs in every hotel were blown into the pool.

Also my dd (who is asthmatic) spent most of the holiday at the doctors on a nebuliser because the air was filled with volcanic ash, making breathing difficult.

Which part of the island are you staying? I can’t remember where we stayed now (after 20+ years) but we definitely won’t be returning.

We went end of July/beg of August last year. First and last time I'll go to Lanzarote. The wind was awful personally. I hated it, and didn't much like where we stayed either (CT).
I have long, straight hair, worn down with a full fringe. Every evening I'd look a state the second we stepped out. No amount of mega hold hairspray was cutting it!
The kids complained they were cold at dinner every evening despite jackets on. Tbh, so were the adults but we just didn't moan!
The sun umbrellas were blown in the pool multiple times a day, complete with very heavy bases. Not sure how no one got hurt if I'm quite honest!
The afternoons were hot, it was 28 degrees most of the week. But the mornings were mostly cool, windy, grey and not the pool weather we were hoping for.
I've been to Tenerife 10+ times, most of those being in Feb. Far nicer weather, no bad winds. If I am going to the canaries again, it will be to Tenerife. Sorry. If I knew last year what I know now, I'd have changed the holiday quite frankly. The hotel wasn't great either (Barcelo Active Resort just in case anyone is reading this and going there!) so I suppose that added to my all round dissatisfaction.

We're there/here now! Mid-high 20s, gentle breeze, perfect.

Marchsnowstorms · 15/04/2023 23:50

The north west is defo very windy - hence surfing / windsurfing. I suspect reading this that CT is also windier than down south of island. I'd say PDC in summer is pretty safe bet

rookiemere · 16/04/2023 07:44

OP we were near Puerto del Carmen and didn't experience this dreadful wind. Maybe it depends where you are on the Island.

Villamaria · 16/04/2023 07:53

We have been to PDC a number of times in August and always had a fantastic holiday. We love the weather, high 20’s so not as hot as Spain and Italy can be at the same time of year. Any breeze is welcome
just make sure you still remember SPF! fantastic choice of restaurants, close to airport and nice choice of day trips/things to do. Enjoy 😊

Thenoseymother · 16/04/2023 11:22

Thank you everyone, I feel a lot better now!

We're also here now, weather pretty perfect. Been in the pool before breakfast. It's almost always breezy and can be downright windy. I think I've been every month baring July and August. As you might expect the wettest was January. We were also here just before Xmas. We had pretty good weather though did have some rain.
Have a great holiday.
