Hotel room for 16 yr old

I'm just about to book a holiday at a resort hotel in shark el sheikh . Holiday will be just me and 16 yer old son .
My budget will (just) stretch to two hotel rooms . I thought it would be nice for him to have his own space
, and tbh I'd rather not share a room with a snoring farting teenager
I've looked and can't see apartments at the resort hotels so I just wondered would hotel be ok with 16 yr old having a room by themselves
I'm booking through onthebeach . com , so surely if his date of birth is an issue , they would let me know

I would instead consider booking the flights and accommodation direct with the airline and hotel via their websites. Such companies are basically third party agents and are not travel agents in the usual sense of the word.

Does the hotel you are looking at offer interconnecting rooms?.

Lots of hotels have 2 bed apartments or one room with a lounge with a sofa bed we usually get these

Yes they'll be fine. Done this several times in Sharm & elsewhere. Last Egypt hotel treated 12+ as adults for room purposes. UK holiday firms sometimes insist you book an adult for each room but it's the destination hotel you need to ask.

I agree with PP about booking your own flights and then accommodation direct with hotel. It gives you more flexibility if you need to postpone / cancel. After being completely screwed over by Tui for about 80% of the cost when I needed to postpone a package 6 weeks before departure, I'll never do that again. To add insult to injury, they'll have re-sold my holiday at a higher price.

Why wouldn't it be OK? (Genuine question... I may be missing something here...)

Most hotels have a minimum age they'll allow to be lead in the room. 21 is common, but it's rarely under 18. Terms normally state each room must have adult in them.

One comment about booking separately. If you book through onthebeach you do get ATOL protection which gives some protection if there is an issue (airline goes bust, etc) with part of your holiday package. Unless you book refundable or flexible flights and hotels separately which often cost more (especially flights) you won't be able to change your plans anyway.

On the beach is not ABTA protected. It is also not a live booking system so the price on the website may not be the price you end up paying. Try an independent travel agent or easyJet/jet2 holidays

TakeMe2Insanity · 14/04/2023 06:30

I think you get round it by booking two rooms that have a connecting doorway. Not sure how to book it though.

cockeyedoptimist · 14/04/2023 07:21

Thanks so much . I've spoken to on the beach and they said it's absolutely fine , happens all the time that kids have a room
I can also request adjoining rooms after booking
now I just have to check that Sharm el sheikh is safe for travel

I agree onthebeach is not ABTA protected, it is though ATOL protected. I agree it may not be the best way to buy a package.

Appreciate the ATOL protection can make a difference, but I can book my flights with Tui and my accommodation separately, cancellable up until the week before the holiday, for slightly less than booking the whole holiday to the same resort with Tui. After transfers it probably works out about £200 cheaper for my group. If I need to cancel like I did last year, I'll be much better off than if the whole holiday was booked through Tui. I cannot overstate how absolutely ripped off I felt by their cancellation charges when they were easily able to resell the holiday at an inflated price.

Ah OK, I see. Thanks.

I’ve booked a hotel room for 2 x 13 year old girls. We had the adjoining room.

made sure they had crisps, nibbles and drinks. So no reason to leave the room.

ours was adjoined but we gave them their privacy and they had a great time.

21! We've always just booked two rooms. The only time we've had an issue was premier inn (and we just pretended DS was 18 rather than 16). We done that with our three children all over the world.
