Monaco accommodation tips

Hi bigspender - For visiting Monaco, choosing the right time is important imo. Avoid special dates like F1 Grand Prix, Tennis Masters tournament, etc like the plague. Don't even think about July and August - too crowded.

Here are my recommendations for a reasonable priced accommodation when visiting Monaco.

There are two hotels within Monaco that my friends stayed several years ago when they visited.

Hotel Alexandra

(I can't remember the name of the other one . Will post when I do)

There is also Hotel Ambassador which is right next to the train station. I don't know anyone who stayed here but it looks OK from the outside.

Hotel Miramar is VERY pleasant. Right at the port, with an open air terrace overlooking the boats. Great restaurant. I have no idea about the cost of staying there, but it's worth asking about it.

There are a couple of hotels in Beausoleil, which is right above Monaco (i.e. you can be in Monaco with 5-10 steps). I will post links to them later tonight. Think of Monaco/Monte-Carlo as a VERY small neighbourhood. It has no boundaries with other neighbourhoods. So you can stay within Monaco and pay a fortune, or you can stay just outside of Monaco (literally a difference of two steps) and you can pay very reasonable prices.

I went to Monaco in Feb last year - it was great and so much cheaper even though it was actually school half term. It was a bit quiet but there were plenty of restaurants open I would say about 60 - 70%. Also if you go at a cheaper time of year you can afford to splash out a bit on a better hotel. There are not so many swanky people about but if you spend an evening in the casino you will get to watch some interesting characters with money to burn. Lots of fab cars around too - I have never seen so many porsches, aston martins, lamborghinis etc!

Aw thanks for that. We had an awful time in Cuba over xmas with a very sick toddler so are a bit wary of travelling too far this year. As i said before, i love France having lived there for a couple of years. iould love to visit the South of France but not break the bank. We plan to have a week in june. Can you tell me if this is a good time to go or is it crazy? Thanks for all the links. Will look tomorrow as am off to bed now x

Not sure about June, we went for a long weekend mid-september 2007, the weather was lovely and warm.

June will be a bit crowded, but otherwise fine. Hotels and flights will cost more than if you were to visit in May or September.

I would prefer September, because the crowds will have gone, the weather will still be gorgeous, and the sea will be warm. In June the sea is still a bit cool (for my Mediterranean skin A lot of people swim in June)

Here are the hotels in Beausoleil that are right next to the center of Monaco.

The ones that are nearest are Hotel Diana, Boeri, and Olympia. They are on the street right above Monaco - literally seconds away.

In your place, I would call and reserve now for June or even September. Summer is very busy around here and they run out of rooms very quickly.
