Got a fancy for visiting. Never been. Anyone been and enjoyed it? Or hated it? Where did you go/stay? What did you do?

Thanks!

It's great if you like history.
Gdansk - shipyards, Solidarnosc, and Roads to Freedom museum about strike which led to fall of the iron curtain. Westerplatz - beginning of ww2.
Krakow - again history, cathedral, soviet era buildings especially Novaheute, Oscar Schindler's factory now a museum.
Wroclaw- gnomes all over the town which are symbols of resistance from Soviet era.

Oh I love Poland. My dad was a Silesian who came from a little town near Wrocław called Swidnica. I have only been to Western Poland and it has been several years now since I was last there, but it’s a fabulous country with a deeply fascinating history and beautiful architecture. And there’s kielbasa and also beautiful pierogi so… 😋😋😋

I've been to Krakow for the weekend, beautiful city, also did the salt mines near by which was fab .

Krakow was fantastic. I really really want to go back. The thermal baths you can go to from Krakow were incredible

Poland is lovely! Been to Krakow, Wroclaw and Gdansk and loved them all. If I had to pick one I would have to choose Gdansk but thats not to say the other two are any less worthy of a visit

It may be a heavy suggestion but Auschwitz is accessible from Krakow. It’s an hour and a half train ride. I’ve always wanted to go but haven’t found the guts. Some of my family members ended up there. Maybe it’s not for a city break but for a longer stay in Poland.

Yes you can visit Auschwitz on a weekend break to Krakow. We did it last year - went for 3 days. We spent a full day at Auschwitz-Birkenau and I would highly recommend it. It's an incredibly moving place, and the museum and guides treat it with the utmost respect.

I absolutely love Poland. Go for it!

SweetBonanza · 10/04/2023 01:03

I forgot to add - we went to Auschwitz via a private tour company - basically a driver in a private car return trip. It was well worth it.

We visited Gdansk last month and jumped on the train to visit Sopot and Gdynia. I would never have considered Poland for a beach holiday but we are definitely going to return for just that. The long sandy beaches were fabulous.

I've been to Krakow and Warsaw and absolutely loved it. I found the people so friendly, the history fascinating (albeit some of it obviously very sad) and there was loads to do. We particularly enjoyed the salt mine tour near Krakow.

We've been to Krakow (in fact dd went with friends last week and had a fab time), Wroclaw - very pretty town, and Zakopane in the Tatra mountains - great for walking. Had a great time in all. Good value for money, very clean.

CaptainMyCaptain · 10/04/2023 12:44

I agree I have found Poland to be very clean with plenty of spotless public toilets presided over by a fierce attendant (in a good way 😊).

Justcallmebebes · 10/04/2023 12:48

I've been to Poznan. V clean and lovely, friendly people. Weather was fab too. Highly recommended
