what jabs do they say you need? they might be on the "recommended" list, but not the "essential" list?

WaynettaSlob · 14/02/2008 14:00

Have a look here (I got it from the Foreign Office Website )
I think it says you don't need anything, but you'd need to check.

PennyBenjamin · 14/02/2008 14:14

I've been to the Maldives a few times, and never had any jabs. Might be sensible to have your standard ones up to date (tetanus, etc) but don't think anything else is necessary.

funnyhaha · 14/02/2008 14:15

Oh, very jealous
Sure I didn't have any, but recommendations may have changed....

When are you travelling there?. It may not be too late still to have a typhoid vaccination done for instance.

According to the above and netdoctor.co.uk you should have both typhoid and hep A vaccinations for the Maldives.

notnowbernard · 14/02/2008 15:09

I didn't have any jabs

PennyBenjamin · 14/02/2008 15:12

Oh no! Sorry!

This isn't going to turn into one of those threads like the "I'm going to buy myself a new watch" thread is it?

Should we all be saying "You should just be grateful you're going on holiday at all, and if you catch nasty diseases then it serves you right for not going to Bognor!"

Seriously, I know I'm lucky having been to the Maldives, and I can honestly say it is one of the most heavenly places on earth. I still dream about it. Mmmmmmmm.

ruddynorah · 14/02/2008 15:14

I've recently had the typhoid and hep A jabs, why don't I go instead of you

PortAndLemon · 14/02/2008 20:43

I'd go with the NaTHNaC recommendations -- if you aren't in a high-risk category (visiting friends and relatives, long-term travellers, or exposed to conditions of poor sanitation) then I wouldn't worry about the jabs. It'll be too late for the Hep A jabs to take effect now anyway.

deuxcheekymonkeys · 15/02/2008 20:04

thank you all for your responding!!! Sorry I was so crap and didn't get back but the friggin computer went down! We ar nothaving jabs as basically is it not a necessity to travel..fingers crossd eh!
