Flying at 36 weeks

leannefox85 · 05/04/2023 18:13

I'm in a dilemma!!!
I'm currently 32 weeks and due to go on family holiday 1st may when I will be 36 +2 weeks and flying back 37+2 weeks to Turkey (4 hour flight)
This is my 5th pregnancy and alwyss had straight forward labours and pregnancies apart from 1st when I had pre eclampsia,I'm currently on blood thinners for this

What are the odds of going into Labour or having baby abroad?
The thought of not flying and my family (children) going abroad without me present and water and balconies and just general looking after them fills me with dread as my psrtner sometimes doesn't hesr my 5 year old waking up as he suffers insomnia and once asleep is asleep, just not being present and being home fills me with dread if I decide not to go.....

I'm not sure what to do and the odds and risks.... my midwife seems to think I'll be fine but of course there is always that what if.....
If I don't go I'll be so stressed with worry but if I go,I'm just going to be resting for a week once there.....

Please help me!! Any advice welcome bad or good, just honest....

I'm losing my mind and don't know what to do
I cannot cancel or amend or I will lose all of the £3,000

I'm losing sleep with what to do for the best.... don't go and worry about the safety of my children with my partner or go and risk possibly going into Labour, which I've read on Google are contradictory and ever changing?!!

Thank you! Much appreciated

Missing the point but your 5 year old is the youngest of 4 and you're taking them all out of school for a holiday? The fines will be about a grand. Plus the medical bills and extra costs incurred if you do give birth will run into multiple thousands.

You're not insured through your bank. You know this. Why can't your husband be trusted?

endofthelinefinally · 06/04/2023 05:18

Hopefully all the information on this thread will be useful to someone.
I doubt the OP will come back.

greenspaces4peace · 06/04/2023 05:43

A grand multip on blood thinners wanting to fly at term.
I can’t imagine anyone medically trained thinking this is okay.
let’s add in a hx of eclampsia…

davegrohll · 06/04/2023 05:46

Just madness. Sorry op but you can't go, you're crazy if you do. Change the dates and take the hit

CalloohCallayFrabjousDay · 06/04/2023 06:35

EasyJet only let you fly until 35 weeks so you won't be able to fly at 37w...

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 06/04/2023 06:36

And if you did give birth in Turkey then you have to fly the baby home.

it will be a nightmare sorting out baby’s travel documents.

Stravawindow · 06/04/2023 06:52

id imagine your insurance will be invalid. On that alone there is no way I would travel.

I have been in hospital in Turkey and that’s with travel insurance. It’s not something I’d recommend. Being without insurance would be utterly horrendous.

olympicsrock · 06/04/2023 07:05

No way - bonkers and would not be allowed.

Marchforward · 06/04/2023 07:08

This can’t be real. You can’t fly in the 38th week of pregnancy. The airline won’t allow it and you won’t be insured. What if you get on the plane to Turkey but they refuse to fly you back?

Surely you would have cancelled/changed the holiday 6 months ago.

YearoftheRabbit23 · 06/04/2023 07:12

I don't think there's any way the airline would allow you to travel on the way back. I'm doubtful about the outbound flight too.

Don't risk it. Stay home. Pay for a relative to go with your husband?

PickledPurplePickle · 06/04/2023 07:22

It’s not a decision you have to make

You can’t fly - it’s unlikely the airline will let you on and if you do manage to go your insurance is very unlikely to cover you if anything happens

CeeceeBloomingdale · 06/04/2023 07:29

Great idea, I'd start practising your sad face so the daily mail can promote your go fund me page when it all goes pear shaped.

CatOnTheChair · 06/04/2023 08:03

Surely the "first week of pregnancy" is when you are 0 weeks 1 day etc.
So flying until end of 35th week means 34+6.
You are way over that.
You can't fly there or back.
You are going to be uninsurable.
You cannot go on this holiday.

Therefore your choices are to let the kids go with their Dad, while you stay at home. Or you move the holiday.

SaltyGod · 06/04/2023 10:47

Is this a reverse?

Of course you can't fly, you're over the limit and won't be allowed onto the plane. They can and will ask for proof.

I was asked for proof at 26 weeks, at check in and by cabin crew when I boarded the plane.

You won't be insured if you do try to fudge it as you aren't allowed to travel by plane.

Use your insurance to get your money back, or send your family without you and put your feet up for a blissful week.

P.s plenty babies come early, I can't believe you'd risk it

Cas112 · 06/04/2023 10:58

It's not something I would even consider.. it's to much of a risk

leannefox85 · 06/04/2023 10:59

I agree with everyone here,I knew it was a mad decision to ever consider going....
I did try to cancel but all flights, hotel and transfers where none refundable through on the beach and my due date changed twice in this time, most recently 2 weeks ago at a growth scan.... this is not something I envisioned happening as a month ago my dates where fine.... also a change of dates to august would have cost me considerably more,I was quoted 2,500 to change date or just cancel, lose everything I've paid and rebook.....

I am no longer going,I was more headed on not going in the first place and I certainly got that confirmation from everyone here..... I have had a chat with my partner and children and eased my anxieties, just ...as a mother and all her children abroad without her is enough to make anyone consider still going..... but I know I have to think of myself and my unborn child here and that is what I was warring at myself with in the first place and why I came here.... I didn't need name calling though and to be called stupid... I knew from the start it was not a good idea I cannot stress that enough....

But anywyay, thank you all for your input and advice it's appreciated and I'm sure my family will be fine and safe without me
Thank you

If you due date changed 2 weeks ago following a growth scan putting you outside the travel window, this MIGHT be covered by your insurance. It’s at least worth a call to them to check that.

Otherwise I think you’ve made a sensible decision and good luck with the birth whenever it happens!

YouJustDoYou · 06/04/2023 11:06

It would be very, very foolish of you to try and go.

YouJustDoYou · 06/04/2023 11:07

So, good to see you decided not to.

Jojobees · 06/04/2023 11:07

Your EDD won’t change, just the fact the baby is measuring more than expected.

amylou8 · 06/04/2023 11:14

Will your insurance cover you? I'd happily give birth in Turkey, probably better healthcare in a private hospital than you'd get in the UK at the moment, but it would cost a small fortune if you're not insured.

Well yes, if OP couldn’t afford to move the holiday I doubt she has a spare £10k plus for hotel & food until baby can fly, new flights, baby registration, baby essentials and hospital bills for both of them.

Echoing this.

You're doing the right thing by not going OP

knottsberryfarm · 06/04/2023 11:18

Good decision.
Try and relax now and maybe get a rest when they are all away.

Dinoboymama · 06/04/2023 11:32

Due dates don't change that far into pregnancy. Babies can measure bigger but they still keep your EDD from your dating scan.
