Campervan trip around North Italy and Switzerland with a 2 year old.

Anyone done this and have any advice? Are we crazy? We are total newbies to campervanning but thinking of doing a 10-12 day trip in September. Probably flying into Milan, hiring the campervan there, and flying back from wherever our itinerary finishes us.

Any tips on where to go, things to see, coping with toddler, what to take etc? We'd love to spend a couple of days around either Como/Garda, visit Lucerne, Florence, Verona (not necessarily all of them) and find some charming off the beaten track type gems. Some light hikes would be fun.

Where do we even start?! Have looked at a few travel blogs and made notes, researched some campervan hire places but that's about it so far...

Have a look at the blog Swiss family fun . Com She has lots of great ideas.
There is a lovely spa and near it a Lido in Locano. Children are allowed into the Spa.
Also Ascona is very pretty and has a great wide stretch of path in front of the marina. As you Walk away from town towards locano it’s flat and all along the lake front . A nice walk to Locano and then take the bus back. Hot in summer possibly though.

Sounds great! Thanks for the recommendation, will check out her blog.

Any other tips from anyone?

I would head to Slovenia - great country for campervanning around. You get lakes, mountains, the coast and city life all within a small area. Honestly one of the most beautiful places I have visited. Camping Bled is a gorgeous site but you’ll need to book in advance.

If you make it to Lucern, go to the Verkehrhaus (transport museum) the kid will love it!

And be prepared to swim in all the swiss lakes and rivers.

I wish I could 'like' posts, thanks again.

What do I look out for when booking campsites? And also campervans- seen lots of sites where the vans look very reasonable and decent but I have no idea what must haves I need for a campervan...

It will be me, my DH and my two year old.

God also the car seat situation- better to take ours or hire/buy out there?

@Housenoob
It sounds too ambitious to me. Far too
much driving. Why not just stay in Italy? Does your child like being in a vehicle for hours? September will still be very hot in Italy so I would stay 3 nights in each place and build in relaxation time. So pools and seaside. Give your child a fun holiday.

We used to drive to Brittany. Max 2.5 hours driving off the ferry. Stay for a week in each place. Always with a pool and always within reach of beaches. Then we mixed that up with sightseeing. It was more relaxing for us too. Go back another year to what you haven’t seen this year: eg Switzerland. Makes it easier for motorhome return too.
