Awaiting Diagnosis - NO Travel Insurance

rain2sunshine · 01/04/2023 11:32

I foolishly booked a summer holiday for myself and my DD whilst being referred to a consultant about a progressing condition.

At the time it felt like the holiday would give me something to look forward to and feel positive about.

Now I'm realising I perhaps acted in haste as I can't get travel insurance while I'm undergoing tests.

Does anyone know please if I will be able to get insurance once the tests are carried out and results are back? Or do I need to get a diagnosis from the Consultant?

Thank you for any suggestions

Try Staysure - we used them when there was a complicated health situation with DD.

Depends what it is! They take a view on whether it’s a risk to them, or not. Lots of people do get insurance (elderly folk for a start!) but you might have to pay a premium. So check with insurers.

This is why you should always sort out insurance before you book, then if a health condition crops up you are covered.
Most companies won't insure if you are awaiting diagnosis but it might depend what it is and what the perceived risk is. So if there is any risk it's heart or cancer related for example they wouldn't but maybe a skin problem they would.
You'd have to phone as online won't take it.
I use Staysure as I have multiple health problems (my annual travel insurance is £500+)

We've never had travel insurance for Europe, we go multiple times a year and just have GHIC cards. It depends where you're going and what your condition is though whether you would want to do that.

Yes, try Staysure

Staysure have insured DD for everything but the condition she is still being investigated for. Still awaiting blood test and they won't cover this untill it's done and results back. She is currently insured with them too so even having the insurance in place it's not.coverd.

You can get travel insurance fine, it just won't cover complications from the condition beigg by tested

Silkierabbit · 03/04/2023 09:32

Usually needs a specialist like Staysure. I used Insure and Go before but they were awful when an issue. Otherwise wait until diagnosis and tests finished but can be more tests and delays atm.

@Choconut travel insurance doesn’t just cover you for illness

HydrangeaHo · 03/04/2023 11:45

Agree. Travel insurance is like house insurance, it covers minor things but what you really need it for are catastrophic events. If you are young and healthy it's dirt cheap. Accidents and illness can happen to anyone and insurance not only covers the medical bills that a GHIC might not, it covers repatriation in case of death or severe injuries.
Far better than a gofundme after the eve

Thank you all for your help. A good outcome in that I have been seen by the Consultant and my condition & medication hasn’t changed. Phew, I’ve now sorted my travel insurance. Thank you

You are covered for emergency care anyway using your ghic if you are visiting Europe.
