Car seats on holiday

We're going on holiday to Portugal and where we are staying we'll need to use the car everyday to get to the beach or the local town, so I'm trying to figure out what to do re car seats.

We going to hire a car, what do other people do? Just hire a FF hired car seat and hope for the best? Or try to lug the car seat with you?

It’s a real faff. We have taken a seat over before (brought a Joie stages for travel) and it was a bit annoying tbh but if you’re using the car a lot it’s worth taking one if you’ve got toddlers as I think that is the age where there is the biggest discrepancy in quality between what you might get from a hire agency and what you can bring yourself.

Were debating what to do for our holiday later this year as have one tall child who is now legally big enough for a booster cushion but has a high back booster at home and one 4yo who is still in a rear facing seat at home. It’s the 4yo who is tricky as while she’d be fine in the stages it is very bulky and not the best as a high back booster which is what I think she’d be in by then.
