Recent experiences travelling with Babyzen Yoyo on Easyjet?

Has anyone travelled on Easyjet recently with a Babyzen Yoyo? Did they allow you to take it as hand luggage for the baby even though it is over the size limit? From the official webpage it seems we should have added a large hand luggage if we wanted to take it on board but stupid me only read that after checking in and it doesn't seem possible to add it now. They will allow us to gate check it for free but was wondering if it will be damaged with just the bag it came in? Would be keen to hear any recent experiences with how strictly the hand lugagge is enforced with babies at Stansted and Amsterdam. Apart from the Yoyo we will only have 2 small hand luggage and also have a checked bag.

Official info here for reference:

For every infant or child you can bring up to two of the following items free of charge to go into the hold, in addition to your cabin bag allowance:

  • travel cot
  • pushchair
  • double pushchair
  • buggy
  • car seat
  • collapsible or non-collapsible pram
  • booster seat
  • baby back carrier.

You can check these in at our Bag Drop before you go through security, or if you need to use any of them to get to the boarding gate, we’ll collect them from you before you board the plane and put them in the aircraft hold. They will be available to collect at the baggage reclaim when you arrive at your destination.

If you wish to bring any of these items with you in the cabin, they will need to be stowed in the overhead locker, should not exceed 56 x 45 x 25 cm, (including any handles or wheels), and need to be purchased as a ‘large cabin bag’ when you book your flight.

Also if they insist on gate checking it is there any chance of getting it back straight after disambarking to reduce the chance of damage?

Normally if they take the pushchair at the gate they will take it off straight after you land and give it to you. I know this is the case with Ryan Air. Although, it fits in the allowance for Ryanair i have found they are always keen to try and check it in. I assume easyjet will have something similar.

Hi @trrk - realise this thread is now a few months old but wondered how you got on? In the same position and would like to take babyzen with us into the cabin if possible.

We were able to take it onboard both ways without paying extra but we were prepared to have it gate checked. Both times we just stood in the boarding queue with it folded up. Luggage didn’t seem to be strictly enforced on either flight so we may have just been lucky. We were also sitting in the priority area by accident In Amsterdam (as had sat down on the only seats to give DD a bottle without realising it was priority) so they may have assumed we had priority boarding.
