Collessum & Sistine Chapel Rome - how to book?

Looking for some help in booking tickets to the Collessum & Vatican Museum - we are going at Easter which is a busy time, but its insanely confusing.

There are so many "official" websites and I am wary of being scanned. I don't want the Roma or card which includes Vatican - it seems very expensive, and then you still have to book. I've not even been able to figure out which are the official booking websites - there are many many websites claiming to be "official". We don;t want to do an expensive tour or have a guide - I just want to book entry tickets for both these sites.

If you've been and know how to book I'd really appreciate some wisdom & guidance. There are lots of YT videos on visiting Collessum & Sistine Chapel - I've watched so many and none offer any clarity at all. I'm so confused.

Its me and 2 DC ages 11 & 15 if that matters - I think Collessum is free for them but they still need tickets

hi @TheClitterati did you manage to get tickets for the colosseum for your kids? We are going in two weeks. I can figure out how to get adult tickets but it keeps sending me around in a loop looking for childrens tickets. I don't think we can get them online. DS is only 1 so I don't want to book a tour in case we only get to stay there for a short while

Try coopculture but I've a feeling children may be free entry. The Vatican museum can be booked direct. Not ideal for a 1 year old though as can be crowded and there are specific one way routes.

@TheClitterati thanks a mill I'm really looking forward to it, I'll read this thread again 😀

@LIZS I think they are as well, but it keeps looping me around in circles. I don't think I can get it online. I think I have to collect it there, or just get one there.

I believe they are. From the tour perspective, from memory, we had to book tickets for us all but only the adults were chargeable. We then had to show proof of ID when we got there to pick up the kids' tickets. For entry only, I think you just show ID (or not for a baby!).

The official site is hard to navigate and even harder to get tour tickets that include the underground sections. We only managed it on our second visit and that was using a third party tour. I think a combination of reseller bots and a lot of demand means the most popular ones go in a few minutes of release. It is quite stressful.

@grass321 it really isn't the easiest website to use! And I am not a completely inexperienced traveller. But anyway. We aren't going to book for underground or any tours. I think it will be too difficult with a stroller. I just want to get in for look. We won't be booking anywhere else just going to see what we can see whilst the baby man co-operates!

Yes, it's a nightmare. Not helped by the English parts not being that clear for some of the options.

Even if you manage to nab some tour tickets, often U.K. credit cards seem to fail the payment part and by the time you try again, they've gone,

There's a whole section on TripAdvisor (with hundreds of posts) advising people how to get tours on the official site. I think it's even worse if you live in the US as they were getting up at 3am to try to book them.
