Can I book my child as an adult

Hi, just looking for a bit of advice. I am hoping to take my 3 year old away and have found somewhere I like the look of. I am a single parent so it would just be the two of us but it is £250 more expensive to pay for an adult and a child than it is for two adults. I have seen some examples on other threads of people who say it’s ok to book your child as an adult. The booking form does allow me to put his correct date of birth so should be fine for the flight I guess but not sure if there could be issues at the hotel. He is too young for kids clubs etc so this wouldn’t be a problem.

If it was just a hotel then possibly but if it includes a flight then I definitely wouldn’t! Is it a package holiday? It’s annoying but as a single parent myself sometimes TUI have a code for a single adult and child for money off.

It is a package holiday. It just seems like such a big difference when in theory a child should be cheaper. I am being penalised for ‘under occupancy’ because he is a child even though I am paying two full prices. I have looked at other hotels and they just charge the shame so not sure why this hotel is different.

Logically I don't see why it should even matter. But that's my opinion and have no idea what the hotel or airline might view it. Sorry not much help. But I sympathise as a single parent aswell.

I personally wouldn’t risk it as the booking needs to match the age on passport. They could charge you an amendment fee too. But I’m risk averse 😆

Yes it’s under occupancy as children don’t count as “occupiers” (stupidly!)

VanCleefArpels · 28/03/2023 12:31

In your situation I would book a hotel with a room rate as opposed to a per person rate and book flights separately - at least research to see what the cost would be

Holidays are always more expensive for 1 child and 1 adult. You can't lie though and say your child is an adult when they aren't.

Try TUI they offer a single parent t discount code of around £150 off.

Call them and book directly.

Sugarfree23 · 28/03/2023 13:40

If its letting you put in the correct date of birth I don't see any reason why not.

If its via a tour company I'd maybe call them just to double check.

PuttingDownRoots · 28/03/2023 13:46

Probably because they won't make money off him in the bar!

bubbles2023 · 28/03/2023 13:46

That's so annoying. Could you call them or go into a travel agent?

That’s what I was thinking!

NotAnotherTaco · 28/03/2023 14:42

Not only will the child pay less at the bar, the single parent will naturally drink and spend less, so in a way, she's paying what typically used to be a single supplement. It's still shit though!

I might be too late with reply but I've had same issue with booking hotels. You need to contact the hotel directly, the Web bookings for some places don't recognise occupancy of 1 adult and 1 child so ends up more expensive. If you contact hotel direct they can give you a better deal.

maddy68 · 23/04/2023 17:03

Book your hotel and flight separately. Just book the room for two
