Has anyone done a guided Egypt holiday?

My son is 4 and obsessed with Egypt. I want to take him to see the pyramids and the museum in Cairo. I'm quite anxious and would rather book something all inclusive that includes tours etc. Never taken him away before and only been on 3 abroad holidays that weren't staying with friends as an adult. Never on my own with a child though. Can anyone who has been to Egypt and done similar kind of holidays advise on where to start?

Look at Families Worldwide. They have a tour. Not sure if he’d be too young though as it’s hot and lots of travel

I know that his age might be a problem. I can only find a handful of tours that cater to such young children. Not worried about the travel so much.

I've just looked and they only cater to age 6 and over. I have a feeling I will just have to plan it myself rather than taking guided tours.

We have used a company based in Cairo to provide us guides in both Cairo and Luxor, as well as drivers in both places. The company was called We Know Egypt.
We were very pleased with the guides. We arranged all accommodation ourselves.
Feel free to DM me if you want any extra info.

I have been to Egypt lots of times and while I love it, would strongly suggest waiting until he is a bit older. Then you can do a big tour, Luxor and Aswan etc.
And he will remember it.

It's mainly because he's so completely obsessed with Egypt at the moment and desperate to go to Africa. It would be amazing, but I do worry about the distance between Cairo and Luxor as I'd want to do both.

EgyptAir is excellent, it’s a member of Star Alliance. You can fly cheaply between the two.

I wouldn’t recommend it for a 4 yo. We went a few years before kids (I am an ancient history enthusiast) including Cairo and a boat trip down the Nile to Luxor and Abu Simbel. It was hot, with long journeys between sites, the history talks were intense/long and there were loads of hawkers hassling tourists all the time. We had to have an armed guard to Abu Simbel. I am an experienced traveler and it was one of my more uncomfortable and difficult trips, albeit I found it fascinating (as an adult). The British Museum would be a good starting point for a child if you haven’t done that yet!

We have and he loved it!

I have just this evening started a similar thread, asking for advice on travelling to Egypt with my son, who'll be 9. Some great advice on there, and I ended up paying a deposit about half an hour ago for a trip with Explore. Very exciting! Their minimum age for the family tour is 7, I know Exodus is 9. I think I might have seen some with a minimum age of 5.

I decided to wait until my son was 9 as I felt he would better be able to manage the long journeys, heat and general chaos better than if we had gone a couple of years ago when he first talked about it.

Multiblue · 26/03/2023 22:11

Not the Egypt one but we did several family trips with both Explore and Exodus. Always superbly run and a good balance of knowledgeable guides and fun activities. Agree with others 4 might be a bit young though.

We took our 2 year old and 4 year old. Private tour. it was fine

Did you use an agent to book?

Yes but I can't recall exactly who...I think it was explore

23NameChange · 26/03/2023 23:29

Intrepid Travel do a "family" Egypt trip with a min age of 5. I did one of the Egypt and Jordan trips many years ago in my early 20s and it was fantastic. So would recommended the company, although I've not done a family trip yet as we haven't taken DD overseas yet.

We used discoveregypt for a tailor made package that involved multiple flights, transfers etc & can thoroughly recommend them.
