Does such a place exist in the UK?

Realised yesterday my children's passports have expired and with the pp office strikes I'm not holding out much hope that we'll manage to renew them any time soon. So, looks like it's the UK for us.

I had been thinking of booking an AI Hotel somewhere with a pool and kids clubs. Somewhere I can properly relax without worrying about dinner, cleaning etc. Clearly we're not going to replicate exactly that experience in the UK but I was wondering what would be closest to that sort of hol. If we rent a cottage or go to centre parcs, I'll still end up cleaning and thinking about food. Plus, even somewhere with activities will probably involve me dropping and picking up each child somewhere different due to ages and preferences.

Any suggestions? We're up North so preferably not as far as the south coast but happy to travel for somewhere good.

TLH Derwent does this, but its in Torquay. Not sure if Peebles Hydro and Crieff Hydro do this in Scotland.

Do you have a decent holiday club for thekids nearby. You could put the kids there and organise a deep clean the week before and get carryouts from local restaurants. Or even get caterers in. Or do the same in a cottage in your destination of choice.

I was trying to find this in the UK as well OP! So following with interest, as AI low-stress pool holidays are my favourite kind 😃

Have a look at The Grove in Hertfordshire.

NameChangingIsMySuperPower · 24/03/2023 23:39

I've never cleaned at Center Parcs. We have eaten out every evening, bought a sandwich at the shop for lunch, and breakfast is either toast or cereal, okay might have gone to cafe rouge for breakfast for one day. The lodges have a dishwasher so you don't even need to was up. You might have to wipe toast crumbs off the side I guess, but that takes seconds.

The Merton hotel in Jersey used to be like this. I guess you'd have to fly, but you wouldn't need. passports.

Greengrassgone · 25/03/2023 00:05

Crieff hydro (Scotland) has this set up.

Moonfleet Manor, but I think too far away

Have a look at potters resort in Hopton-on-sea Norfolk.

We been lots of times it's all inclusive and all activities included in the price.

It is not cheap but once you are there you don't need to spend any money and all food, drink and act are included so it's good value for money.

MrsSkylerWhite · 25/03/2023 11:38

It’s a long way but I think Fowey Hall would be ideal for you.

Coolblur · 27/03/2023 06:01

Crieff Hydro is great. Not quite the same as AI in Europe but you can get DB&B deals, and it has kids club sessions included for all ages. There are loads of (paid) activities swimming too. I prefer it to Center Parcs. Plus it's in a lovely part of the World.

bert3400 · 27/03/2023 06:04

Just another vote for Potters, AI resort . I've never been but several friends have and rave about it .

Crieff definitely does, Peebles part of the group now so may well do-they did in the 70s when we went!

Same here, I never understand when people describe a SC holiday as 'same shit different location'.

Anyway, another vote for Crieff or Peebles Hydro.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 27/03/2023 08:20

Crieff Hydro is exactly what you describe, but take a raincoat! Also take sunscreen!

We went 6 years running when the dc were younger.

sarahb083 · 28/03/2023 10:24

I'd try and renew the passports - apparently the strike isn't affecting application times. There's no substitute for real sun!

Alternately, the Luxury Family Hotels chain is great - I think there's one in Norfolk or Suffolk.

BloomingHyacinths · 28/03/2023 14:51

I wish Potters had existed when mine were little it looks fab.

However unless we were abroad I always did S/C in the UK for the space you get. Absolutely never done any cleaning on holiday ever.

I've never done any cooking or cleaning at Center Parcs.
Breakfast in the lodge, buy sandwiches for lunch and eat out.
It's not AI but the only place that had the water park that kept my DC entertained every day.

JonSnowedUnder · 28/03/2023 18:33

For those saying you don't clean when renting a cottage in the UK, we've always had to leave ours clean/strip beds/bins. If you have any sort of meal at the property, even if its a take away I feel like there's still mess that need cleaning? I'm not talking deep clean but with three kids there's always light cleaning, tidying sorting the bins.

I like the aspect of AI hotels as you can leave for your day in the morning and by the time you get back everything has been cleaned and beds all freshly made, just to be clear I'm not leaving a shit hole for the maids or anything.

How does Potters differ from butlins? Is it just posher?

Not having a choice of veggie food is disappointing.

BloomingHyacinths · 28/03/2023 21:41

@JonSnowedUnder There was a long thread recently about stripping beds in rentals. 50/50 on those who obeyed and those who thought they'd already paid for cleaning and refused to comply.

Looking at Potters website, TripAdvisor and prices it's much posher and more expensive than butlins. Also genuinely all inclusive.

PuppyMonkey · 28/03/2023 21:47

Yes just coming on to say the answer is Potters.

EastEndQueen · 29/01/2024 22:43

If abroad is an option, lalandia in Billund, Denmark is across the road from Legoland and absolutely lovely. Pool set up like CP
