Dressing in Morocco - teenage girls

We are going to Morocco over Easter.

I have a 13 and 15 year old DDs. Has anyone visited with teenagers and what did they wear?

I've told them that outside the hotel/Riad they will have to wear long trousers and t-shirts. It might be v hot. They are already complaining.

Are longer shorts and a t-shirt an option? The one thing I am dreading is the potential harassment they might receive.

To be honest, I would even be a little cautious leaving them alone while in the resort too - have your DH stay with them in public areas where possible. Even in a conservative European country I have had very different treatment when I arrive at a hotel restaurant alone compared to how I am treated when I am with my DH and son.

I went to a luxury hotel resort in a Muslim country and witnessed a male member of staff sexually harassing a female member of staff. It was like seeing a curtain fall away from the luxurious facade. I immediately spoke to him and said that he shouldn't treat her that way - he shrugged his shoulders and walked off. But it was clear that the woman was desperate for me not to report it to management, as she would probably have faced consequences herself...😕

It depends on the rest of them, I wore tshirts and baggy long shorts, which was fine. But my hair was red (not ginger, red). I didn't feel comfortable.

Honestly it will be hot as balls. Long flowy maxi skirts with loose tshirts will be practical and respectful. Lightweight shorts underneath if thigh chafing is an issue. Thin cotton cardi wraps will keep the sun off and keep you warm on cool evenings. If you're in the right area all go to a market and buy some of the ubiquitous tourist elephant trousers. They make nice souvenirs.

I love that dress. I’m good for linen trousers. Light shirts.

there is no way any of us will be going anywhere with DH.

They are not complaining. Just unaware of the conservative nature of the country. They will wear appropriate clothes outside the resort.

thanks for all the advice. DH and I are well travelled. We always respect the customs of the countries we are visiting. The only thing I’m worried about in Morocco is unwanted harassment especially of the girls.

thanks for the tip about not leaving them alone at the resort. That did concern me. DH will be working hard as an escort!

Had such a hideous time in Egypt in my mid twenties despite dressing carefully was travelling with a friend. Swore never to go back to North Africa like hell would I take my teen girls there. No bloody way.

I’ve been to Egypt/Tunisia and Morocco many times.

Egypt has always been the worst in terms of harassment even when I’ve been with men in my family. The blonde hair and blue eyes is quiet the hit lol.

if I leave the resort I always wear maxi dresses with short sleeves that are light.
I could not wear trousers I would be boiling.

I actually didn’t find Morocco
too bad at all.

We are back. Thought I'd update in case any one else is searching as I was.

Morocco was incredible. We were never hassled once. We did dress conservatively or if we were wearing shorts we wore a long sleeve top, or a t-shirt with long trousers.

There were plenty with shoulders uncovered and midrifs on display. I reminded them that it was a conservative country and that yes while you could wear what you liked it is good manners to dress to respect the ways of the country you are in.

We had no problems in the souks and I was regularly falling behind and not bothered. Cant wait to go back.

I did wonder was I that invisible age - 50! But the girls had no hassle either.
