Where could I avoid using public transport and just explore by foot?

Winchester Cambridge Paris…. How are you getting to the city?

Wrongsideofpennines · 20/03/2023 16:19

Vilnius. We did need a train to get from the airport but then walked everywhere else.

lostinfusion · 20/03/2023 16:20

Amsterdam or Reykjavik - both small & flat

Venice, Palma

Am assuming youre happy to get a train, bus or taxi from the airport in which case ive walked around all of these:
Amsterdam
Boston
Copenhagen
Manchester
St Petersburg (OK, maybe not currently...)
Reykjavik
Seville

Granada. But get yourself fit first, walking up that hill to the Alhambra is tough on the thighs.

PillBoxes · 20/03/2023 16:25

Florence
Lucca
Cordoba
Seville

That's just a few. Most cities with an historic core are walkable, it is when things are outside the city that you need more than your two legs.

Can I ask why public transport is not for you?

I got the ahem.... tourist train thinggy and it took in all the sights (hop on/off) AND took me up the hill of doom to the Alhambra. Walking back down via the lookout point and Albaicin was steep but a lot easier than going uphill.

Well done you, I took one look at the gradient and said Nope!

I've been to lots in Europe, from the ones already mentioned I particularly love Palma Mallorca, Malaga, Venice, Prague and Florence.

I'd also recommend Porto, old town Dubrovnik and Istanbul.

I'm happy to travel to somewhere but I just want to be outside. Im fed up with cars, buses, trains.
I'd ideally like to arrive by Tardis and just step into the thick of it.
It also means I can keep myself to myself, no language issues etc

It's pouring with rain where I am today and I started dreaming about just getting out to explore.

Quite pleased to know Stockholm is walkable. That's towards the top of my list.
