If you're planning to walk the walls, wear comfy shoes and investigate the Dubrovnik pass as it covers the cost of walls and some other attractions.
If weather is good Lokrum Island is nice for a visit to escape bustle of the town.
Check out when cruise ships are due to land cruisedig.com/ports/dubrovnik-croatia?utm_content=cmp-true and try to avoid being around in peak times.

The Panorama restaurant at the top of the cable car is lovely, but you have to book. It's not cheap, but service and food are excellent. I was slightly disappointed with the other meals we had in the centre , very expensive and not brilliant, but maybe we just picked badly.

Enjoy !

I once bought the world's most expensive coffee on the walls in Dubrovnik.
When you are up there look down at the rooves of the buildings below. Many look new and that's because they are. It was heavily bombed in the war around 1992.
I had been there in the 1980s when Yugolslavia was communist and the returned about 5 years ago. The difference was dramatic.

Following, I'm heading there in May. Just for a weekend. Is the pass really worth it if only there for three days?

TimeforaGandT · 18/03/2023 18:25

Was there in November for 4 days and we did get the pass and it was worthwhile but it probably depends on how interested you are in visiting the museums/churches etc covered by it. It gives a discount on some of the walking tours too and some free bus tickets if I recall correctly.

We had a fabulous meal at Proto but you need to book (ask to eat upstairs on roof terrace). Just had a drink at Panorama but still got to enjoy the view.

Thanks everyone! Have booked Panorama and will have a look at Proto. Def will walk the walls and am very interested in the history surrounding the war. Thinking of doing a trip to Mostar too.

Do a kayak trip it's a lovely way to view Dubrovnik

ChocolateHelps · 18/03/2023 20:06

We did a food and wine walking tour that was brilliant! Lots of info about the war and tried a course in 4 different restaurants.

Walking the wall I found pretty heavy going on my thighs, especially the down steps!

There's a fab restaurant over looking the harbour with MASSIVE lampshades that did a good burger and nice views of the harbour.

I would love to do that but might be a bit chilly at the start of April! I'm a bit if a woose when it comes to cold water!

Oooh I'll need to find that restaurant! Yep I'm worrying about my substantial thighs being able to cope!

Theres 2 really nice bars overlooking the bay where they rent out canoes. It’s near the Love Stories museum

topofbighill · 18/03/2023 22:53

Avoid from mid morning to after lunch. Cruise tourist hell. It's a totally different piece after cruise passengers have left.

Dubrovnik is where my granny is from!
The cable car and Lokrum Island will only open from the start of April.
There is a brilliant war 'museum' at the top of Mount Srd (cable car stops there) inside a leaky fortress. The Red History Museum near the ferry port at Gruz is great for kids - they have set up rooms in the style of the Communist era.
Bosnia is a great idea for a day tour. There is an awful genocide museum there which broke my heart like no other.
Korcula Island (two hours away on the ferry) has more of the same but waters can be choppy when they are using the smaller vessels out of peak season. Ston is a short bus trip from the main bus station if you want to walk an even longer wall and try the best oysters in the world. The wall in Ston is only second to the Great Wall Of China. It is good as a day trip.
Try to stay inside or close to the old town (Hilton is obviously a great option as they have interconnecting rooms and you would be bowled over by the a la carte breakfasts). Prior to the war, it was not a Hilton but a very prestigious and unique hotel where Edward made his abdication decision after staying there with Wallis. It is a piece of history in itself.
Restaurants are slowly getting better. Try and have a peka dish at a konoba. I can recommend one if you are willing to take a local bus ride out.

If you can take a boat trip to a few islands. They are beautiful.

ItsReallyOnlyMe · 19/03/2023 09:56

If you can please do have a trip to Montenegro around Boka Bay and Kotor. It's stunning.
