Destinations To Combine With Visit To Singapore?

My DH and I have a wedding in Singapore in May.
It's such a long journey but the groom has nudged us again today and I'm now thinking perhaps we should go and make a trip of it.
Where else is easy and fairly cheap to visit form there?

We could take three to four weeks off in May but we have to be back by the 26th for another wedding. So perhaps 3 weeks max. We love markets, scenery, cuisine, culture and history.

Below are neighbouring destinations looking at the map.
Malaysia - Kuala Lumpur, Langkawi.
Thailand
-Bangkok.
Cambodia.
Vietnam.
Indonesia - Bali and Jakarta.
My DH will like to visit Australia one day so perhaps Indonesia should be left till then? Will it have to be just Singapore and Malaysia?
Then perhaps do Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam some other time?
We'll like to do India at some point but that will be one trip as it's such a large country.

So if we're going to Singapore in May which other destinations is worthwhile to combine? My DH has been but it will be my first time. We'll be travelling from the UK.
Thanks.

There are direct flights from Singapore up to the island of Koh Samui in Thailand. Or Phuket. Both are cheap holiday destinations if you want five star for a European 3 star price

Hiya
do it!!!
you just need to be careful about where it’s wet season.
best in malaysia is the east coast so Tioman, rendang, Perhentian Islands etc.
I’d avoid Phuket and West Malaysia/ Thailand as it could be rainy and risk of thunderstorms.
if I were you I’d either look at Malaysia, easy to get there from Singapore and you could do a mini tour, a couple of the islands, malacca, Cameron highlands ( not sure what weather will be like) is OR I’d bite the bullet and go to Indonesia- the weather is amazing and you’re so much closer being in Singapore. There are direct flights to Denpasar. Ubud is stunning and lots of different beach resorts depending on what you’re looking for. You could also go to the ghilli isles and Lombok and even possibly up to Java by boat from the north of Bali. I did an overland trip years ago from Bali to Bangkok and Indonesia is incredible!

Singapore is such a flight hub that given your timeframe, you could go pretty much anywhere in Asia/Oceania. You could even go to Australia - May is a good time of year to visit Cairns/Port Douglas/Great Barrier Reef although further south will be cooler as it's getting to winter.

I noticed Hong Kong wasn't on your list. If you haven't been, it's definitely an experience. You could fly to HK for a long weekend and then get a direct flight from HK to Samui for a week or so, then maybe on to Bangkok for a few days and then back to Singapore for your return flight.

You have so many options. Unless you just want to lie on a beach in the sun, don't let the rainy season put you off places. Much of the time it's just one huge downpour in the afternoon and then the sun comes out again. (I used to live in Asia so have travelled pretty much all over).

Ooh yes @HundredMilesAnHour Hong Kong would be fab too! As you say, so many options.
We’ve also been to Cambodia and Vietnam
in May and loved them. You could do a great trip in Cambodia, into phnom
pen, down to kep and the beaches and then to Siem Reap, for culture. Lots of markets and if you research there are a few NGOs who do great work- we stayed at a hotel which gave profits back to the local community and all its employees were local. It was lovely!
im excited for you!

Australia in itself is such a huge place to explore, I don't think there would be much point combining that with Indonesia, I'd do Indonesia now! It's the best season to go that time of the year too Smile
