New York hotels

We have flights booked for a special birthday Feb 24.
I’m finding the hotel search a bit daunting as I have no idea of the different areas and their pros/cons.
ideally a nice hotel with a bar, accessible to the main must-sees (and if breakfast was included that would be a bonus)

Hotel Edison, we stayed there and it has a beautiful art deco vibe. Right on Times Square and it has its own bar.

We stayed in the Fitzpatrick hotel on Lexington. It was within walking distance to whatever we needed.
DH went into a nearby subway and got us weekly transit passes - these work on the buses and subway. Anything we couldn't walk to, we hopped on a bus.

I stayed in a little hotel in Meatpackers once. I don’t think it was handy for much of the tourist stuff at all but I loved the area! It had a fab rooftop bar and pool.

NY is great. Hope you have a fab trip

Embassy Suites by Hilton New York on West 37th Street is in a good location and offers breakfast as part of the room rate.

Have a look at Public. It’s in quite a low key but cool area, excellent shopping nearby and good links to all the sights. In itself the hotel is very comfortable with a sort of edgy vibe, with a trendy rooftop bar etc.

I’ve stayed at the Renaissance Times Square. Excellent staff and location included breakfast and tour bus voucher.

gogohmm · 08/03/2023 15:37

I stayed in Hell's Kitchen area, really close to tourist things but very much a living neighbourhood, lots of interesting restaurants that didn't need booking ahead was a bonus

Deathbyfluffy · 08/03/2023 15:38

We always stay in Times Square or Hell's Kitchen - both next to each other, and good for exploring.
Bear in mind most places add the silly 'facility fee' of $30 a day or so now - a right con when you're paying to stay there anyway!

shakeitoffsis · 08/03/2023 15:52

The knickerbocker is very nice and has a lovely rooftop bar overlooking Times Square.

DoneAdulting · 08/03/2023 16:30

Highly recommend the Intercontinental Barclay

mdh2020 · 08/03/2023 16:52

I support the Hotel Edison especially if you are going to be going to the theatre. It’s very central.

I am an absolute expert on new york hotels as every pm literally im searching!! I have a big birthday next yr so am checking prices etc etc and planning it. I really dont want to stay around TS - full of weed and sellers selling you stuff you dont want but my 2 teenage kids - it will be their first time going so might have to stay there.so
Hotel Scherman
The Pearl hotel
Are on my list.
The riu plaza on TS you cant beat with a hot breakfast buffet and interconnecting suites- the price is the best if you download the app too but im trying to not have to book it !! The marriott marquis TS is pricey but what a view of TS for my teens. Pricey too.
So on Black friday most if not all hotels had reductions so i am wating til then
Love the pearl- pricey but was ok on Black Friday
Was in NYC yrs ago and loved Midtown so am aiming for there / upper west side- for a villagey feel. The nomad is in Little Italy but is pricey. In fact every hotel is pricey now in NYC. I do not want to slum it when going so the lower priced places with a rubbish kitchen in the room is NOT for me. I read hotels near wall street / financial district can be ropey at night so they are out.
Brooklyn is no less pricey as is long island city. The holiday inns seem to be reasonable with breakfast . I am on Facebook groups called newyork tourist tips for brits and new york with kids so you can search hotels on those . My priorities are breakdast and a fridge and kettle in room BUT if the difference between room only and breakfast is huge , sure we can go to a diner for breakfast and enjoy the USA instead !! Best of luck !!

Check out the Kimberley hotel too. Thats also on my list. My Brother is just home from Manhattan. Said its v expensive but im banking on dollar pizza / food trucks/ diners for fun USA pancakes etc etc . You can buy a subscription to pret a manger and fill yourself up with coffee while there works out cost effective. I find the App erics new york v good for info too. My kids are young teens so doing catch ice cream cafe and some cool milk shake places like black tap . Erics shows you where public loos are - apparantly they are in short supply in NYC - imagine.!!! I also want to bring them to jersey gardens mall and an indoor waterpark. They wouldnt be into museums ATALL so want them to do lotsa fun kis things !! Have a fab time.if i think of anything else ill post it. Rise NYC looks fun too. The dollar is so strong now but so what. You only have the same big birthday once !!!
