Last year we did Egypt ai and got a really good deal as could go slightly before state schools broke up. 2.5k for 4 of us in a 5 star with water slides etc. Was easy and lovely and just what we needed.

Have a similar budget this year (up to 3k ish?) but can’t find anything as nice.. wondered about saving it and doing Cornwall for camping this year and a cruise / big holiday next year? There are some lovely med cruises for 5/6k for two weeks and it seems like it could be an easy way to see sights with the kids and no second adult!

So if you have any easy holiday ideas for this year or higher budget for next year and an opinion on which is better hit me with it 😁

A static caravan for a week somewhere like the lakes? Or Devon

It might set you back about 600/700£ maybe 1k spending money but will leave you plenty for next years cruise

It depends on the age of your DC but my easiest holiday as a single parent was at PGL. I had a great time doing the activities with the kids and could then sleep read on a sun lounger while they were fully supervised and entertained in the pool. No cooking, fun every day. The DC were 11 and 8 and really want to go back.

Thanks both!

Tell me more about pgl @PolkaDotMankini ! That sounds fab - mine will be 9, 11 and 14 this summer and like to be always “doing” stuff! It’s hard finding something that everyone likes on your own! Did you do Uk based or abroad?

i guess I’m worried we'll skip a holiday this year to spend extra next and then they’ll all get sea sick or something 😂 big holidays feel very eggs in one basket… I wonder if it’s worth it?!

Euro amp in France? Activities for all of them and quite a few have water parks on site or nearby. It's not cheap cheap though.

We went to PGL Barton Hall, which is on the outskirts of Torquay up in the hills. I chose to share a room with the DC but you have the option not to. Basic en-suite accommodation but clean and functional. There were two activities in the morning, two in the afternoon and two in the evening. We were grouped with other families on the same timetable so the DC made friends during the week.

The activities were a real mix and we did something different every day: trapeze, archery, abseiling, zip wire, raft building, treasure hunt... The evening activities were more relaxed, with the earlier one aimed at families with younger children and the later one for the older ones, but everyone was welcome at everything. TBH we were so tired after a full day that we did the early evening activity and went to bed most nights. We were very lucky with the weather all week so the DC were in the pool every chance they got. There were always lifeguards on duty and other staff organising (completely optional) games in the water so that was my chill-out time. There were also giant games, a pool table etc. inside.

It's full board, so no cooking. The catering was buffet style with plenty of options and different needs catered for. It wasn't fancy but there was always something everyone liked.

The only additional money I spent was on ice creams and drinks from the bar. I'd absolutely go back.
