Do you know a nice city where there isn't very much to do?

Bit of an odd request I know! I want to go on a mini break next month, and I want to sit on my hotel balcony/in a cafe and read and chill. I would also like to walk down some pretty streets once in a while.
That's it!
The issue is that I wouldn't be able to relax enough to do this if I knew there were nice sites/sights/excursions/museums etc to explore, as I would definitely feel like I needed to see them.
So I need somewhere pleasant/pretty/friendly BUT boring!
Any ideas for destinations that would fit the bill?

Annecy or Carcassonne in France. Pretty but again not tonnes to do apart from wander about and eat

Also another vote for Dubrovnik-beautiful but not much to do

cassiatwenty · 07/03/2023 10:34

Cannes or Helsinki in summer, Dubrovnik outside tourist season

I recommend Gibraltar.

You can find an AirBNB with a balcony and if you are lucky you may get one with ocean view where you can also see the airport. It's really fun watching planes lands. There are only about 30 flights a week so it won't disturn your peace too much.

Agree with Bratislava. Very small and chilled, with not a lot to do. I completely disagree with posters saying Porto though! There's loads to do there.

WomanStanleyWoman2 · 07/03/2023 14:28

I agree, @Novella12 - I loved both cities, but there is definitely more to see in Porto. Although I suppose it doesn’t have “famous” attractions; you have to look around a bit more to find things to do.

Exeter. Pleasant but dull.

Ljubljana is also small, compact and lovely. Nice, Cannes, and Antibes. Monaco is close though not cheap. St Etienne. Lugano or Lausanne in CH. Oviedo in Spain.

Definitely porto. It's pretty but honestly there's fuck all to do.

I love Porto. It's really gorgeous if a little ramshackle in places. And ideal for wandering. I think there's plenty to do though. Port estates , river cruise, stacks of magnificent churches and public buildings. And the food!

Okay, flights booked to.....drumroll.......Gdansk!
I'm not sure if anyone actually recommended it on the thread, but I certainly found some of the suggestions useful.
Gdansk seems to have a few good museums which I could visit, without it dominating the trip, and then spend the rest of the time walking around the streets(apparently very pretty) and sitting in cafes reading/people watching.
I have booked a hotel that apparently has a pretty view of the old town too, so hopefully I won't mind spending lots of time in my room.
Also, the flights were cheap!
Thanks again everyone. Lots of ideas for future trips.

Ah Gdansk! Known as Danzig in my father’s time. My father came from the region when it was still Germany (up until the end of WW2). Enjoy!
I’ve loved my trips to beautiful Poland. There’s nothing like a Polish market square to sit and drink a coffee or a beer in. And the people are lovely! Gdansk has a particularly lovely market square. 🇵🇱❤️

Granada
I found the opposite to be true.

Gdansk is lovely, really amazing architecture. It’s good for people watching from
a cafe or bar.

Will you report how you liked Gdansk when you get back?

Gdansk is lovely - I spent about four days there a few years ago and it is very pretty and relaxing. Hope you have fun!

Yes a town or village is what you need, not a city!

lovescats3 · 11/03/2023 19:59

Heard Gdansk was nice
