going alone to Perth Australiai

i really want to go to Perth WA. I went to Australia in 2011 to Sydney to visit some relatives. That was the first time I had been that far. It was ok Once you have done a long haul flight then the next tims it doesnt seem that long I then went to visit some friends in New Zealand about 4 years ago.

Now I want to go to Perth, I have looked at countless videos and it looks lovey and ore laid back than Syddney. I actually found Sydney too busy. The problem I have is that none of my friens are interested in going with me for various reasons so I have to consider not going at all or going alone for a two week holiday to Perth

I did consider an organised tour where I would be holidaying with others but when I looke into it the cost was astronomical so I gave up on that and besides when you go on these tours they only give you so muh tie to look around a particular destination before moving on and that does not give you much of a chance to really explore the area, One of my olddesst and closest friends sai to me that she could never go to Australia because it looks so borring and she could never cope with the flight. So as I said noboy wants to go with me.

I do not like holidaying alone but what choice do I have and I really want to see Perth. I do not want to seem like a Billy no mates which is not the case at all Itss just that noboy wants to go to Australia

It’s an unusual destination. Isn’t it the most remote city on the planet? There isn’t anything there particularly to see. I’m sure it’s perfectly fine though.

Appleblum · 02/03/2023 04:48

It's a lovely place, very laid back, and definitely a lot less busy than Sydney.

Do you like travelling alone? Some people say they do but that's because there's an expectation that they'll meet other backpackers or single travellers anyway. However the last time I was there the tourists were mainly couples or families and I didn't see the lone travellers that other popular cities get. I may be wrong.

Tourmalines · 02/03/2023 05:01

If you really want to see it then I’d say go . It really is an underrated city . If you are comfortable doing self drive there’s also lovely attractions outside of Perth . It’s also as safe as any city .

Aussiegirl123456 · 02/03/2023 05:24

Perth is beautiful. Just go. I know you don’t like going on holiday alone but if you want to visit, you only live once.

I have just moved to the cocos islands, temporarily, which are part of WA. I am
heading back to Qld soon though. I hadn’t visited Perth for a few years but spent a few days there a couple of weeks ago. You may find it’s too laid back haha! But if you go, have a beautiful time. The sunsets are out of this world (we don’t get them like that on the eastern side of Aus).

PickleMcPickle · 02/03/2023 05:26

Take a look at day tours such as this one www.australianpinnacletours.com.au/western-australian-tours/pinnacle-desert-and-4wd-adventure-day-tour I took my son and we loved sliding down the sand dunes.

GoldDuster · 02/03/2023 05:29

Do it, nobody will bat an eyelid. Have fun!

FiveShelties · 02/03/2023 05:36

Perth is a fantastic city, really easy to get around and definitely quieter than Sydney.

It does get very very hot, so I would pick the time for your visit carefully. We visited in March a few years ago and it was over 40C for quite a few days. We loved Freemantle and stayed in Bussleton for a few days as well.

If you want to go, then go and have a fantastic time .

DifficultBloodyWoman · 02/03/2023 05:38

If you go yourself, you can go today!

Don’t let it hold you back. I’ve planned a few solo trips and almost always had someone crash or try to crash my trip! I actually enjoy traveling on my own.

And I’ll be I Perth over Easter (with family, sadly, my solo trips are on hold for the next few years).

I do not really like travelling alone but what is the alternative when people you know do not want to accompany you? You say Perth is a remote place which it is but I did not like Sydney. I found it too busy. I prefer remote quiet places. I live near London but rarely go into the centre of London. I cannot abide the West End and only go into Central London to see a show or for work I have been to America a few times but hatedd New York for the same reason. I do like cities but more laid back ones so I think Perth woul suit mee.. There are some nice small towns on the outskirts sof ths city that look nice arround the Margaret River area. I am not bothered if I do not meet any other solo travellers. I recently went to Poland on a tour and there was one other single traveller and she just wanted to keep herself to herself andd wante to sit and eat alone. i did suggest sitting with her oveer breakfast and she reused saying I am fine as I am so I sat elsewhere. She hadly spoke to anyone else the entire trip which was a pity because I engage with most people even though they were not solo traveller and once you chat then they will chat back.

Perths great but going to WA and only seeing Perth would be a huuuuge waste IMO! The coast is stunning - you'll see things you'll never see anywhere else. Esperance, Margies and Exmouth are must sees! We just got back this morning, it as 37 degrees when we left 😁

Ohthepressure · 02/03/2023 05:53

Two weeks is quite a long time for Perth! There's not much to do or see here without long, time consuming trips north or south (or east, to Kalgoorlie). The beaches are fabulous but it's very, very hot and exposed (and when the wind whips in in the afternoons you're at risk of being sandblasted!) And accommodation is scarce and expensive.

I'd say a week would be better - and it's a long way to come for a week! Singapore is a great stopover en route, you could probably do almost a week there too.

But if you're determined to come then there are new brew pubs on the river and cafes and gardens to curl up and read a book in, fabulous sunsets to watch, a nice market in Fremantle (open Fri-Sun). It's not a late night city, by any means, the CBD is deserted by 9pm and at weekends, so it might be a bit toooooo laidback to spend a long time in.

You can go and interact with the animals at Cahuna wildlife park, and I don't know if they still have it but they used to have a revolving restaurant.

Rottnest Island to meet Quokkas.

Visit the pickled fairy shop in Freeo.

Take a wine tour boat up the Margaret river.

Ride around on the back of a motorbike - on your own with a licence or on the back of someone else.

Shop.

If you get friendly with locals the Wedge Island is, well difficult to explain, surfers, hippies, shacks on the beach.

The sunsets are spectacular.

Ningaloo Reef where you can swim with whale sharks.

There are loads of independent art galleries.

Go for it OP.

TheSandgroper · 02/03/2023 06:10

Eh? If you want to come here, come!

visitwa.com.au/

We will be happy to have you for your fortnight. We are friendly, there are day or short tours for all ages/types so get in early and you will make a mate or two. Failing that, write little slips out asking for a companion and hand them out on the flight. You just never know …

You don’t have to fly from Heathrow. Emirates fly to half a dozen airports in the UK.

I can't believe you just said there's nothing to see in Perth - you must not have been because there's so so much to do and see!

MangoPineapple11 · 02/03/2023 06:17

Go for it and rent a car (reasonably priced) try to organise a trip down to Margaret river region while on the trip with a wine tour .
You will be more then content by yourself and people are generally chatty and friendly .

if you want recommendations of other things to do, just ask 😀

WinterMermaid987 · 02/03/2023 06:19

I was in Perth as a solo traveler in my late 20s and just did a couple of trips with other groups. I went up the coast to Exmouth with a tour group. It was the best of both worlds time to myself and an opportunity to chat. I just booked it when I got into Perth. Go have fun if it’s where you want to go.

Flute56 · 02/03/2023 06:21

are there many museums or art galeries or conceert hallss in Perth? when I was in Sydney I went round the Sydney Opera House. To me it was just like any othr concert hall and I found it boring. Nothing special about it. Just a stage an rows of seats. I also visited Camberra where I had a relative so stayd a coule of days in Canberra and went roun Governent House but wasnt in Canberra long enough to see much of the placee. I never got to see Bondi Beach because my relatives refused to go there saying it was a two hour drive from their house which they id not want to do.

As for the heat in Perth doesnt it depend on the time of year? I was hoping to go in September. The highliht of my time in NSW was when I took a bus trip to a remote beach and discovered they were filming Home and Away so I stayed to watch which was ineressting esecially as I used to watch the how and saw some of the actors. When I got bac to my relatives I told them what I had seen and they said oh we dont bother as we never watch the show. Each to their own

I'm from Perth, so I'm happy to answer questions if I can. It's 37 degrees (again) today, so we are sheltering inside with the air con this afternoon, may go down to the beach for a dip later this evening. Yes, we have a new state museum (Boola Bardip) that is supposed to be very good, but I haven't been yet, and various galleries and theatres. Lovely beaches, amazing sunsets. September is quite cool, not swimming weather but good for getting out and about. The north of the state is lovely at that time of year, and it is wildflower season in the south.

It is a great city to live in, but as pp said, a week would probably be enough for a visitor. I would say try to get up to Exmouth / Coral Bay / Karijini national park - they are the "nowhere else on earth like this" places. The only problem is they are a looong way from Perth, so you would need to look at your schedule.

AutumnOcean · 02/03/2023 06:37

I live in Western Australia. Perth is improving, but I would personally say two weeks is too long. The city itself can be quite desserted in the evenings.
If you can get someone to come along and drive down our beautiful coast, visit Margaret River, Albany, wineries and all that you will not be disappointed. It's a glorious part of the world.

Too long just in Perth that is. Not if you're travelling around the state.

ive now gone off the idea. Is Melbourne a better bet? I just do not want a place as busy as Sydney. I like a laid back atosphere

Flute56 · 02/03/2023 06:55

having watched a vieoe of Melbourne city it looks as bad a Sydney. My relatives live on the outskirts of Syney a 20 minute bus ride out of Manly and thhheir area is quite nice but not th city of Syney. Its a bit like where I live in the UK. I live 30 minutes out of the city of London and woul not live in the city of London in a million years lol

I travelled all over Australia on my own. Perth is a lovely destination for a few days. Don't miss Fremantle and Rottnest Island.

WinterMermaid987 · 02/03/2023 07:23

What about the Queensland coast? Noosa etc. depends what you’re looking for culture/ theatre or nature animals beaches? The cities will be busy by their nature. Adelaide is smaller compact but options for nice day trips out.

WinterMermaid987 · 02/03/2023 07:28

My relatives lived near coolum 2hrs north of Brisbane for a while it’s a nice coastline to explore. But not a “cultural” holiday more nature outdoors walking / camping / beautiful beaches etc.
