Myself and DH have booked a last minute holiday for us and our 2 DC. DS turns 3 end of march and DD is 8 months old. We are flying out next Thursday to Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt (btw has anyone been this time of year to comment on weather)

Anyway reason for post is I need help. This is the first time I am travelling abroad with kids and I have no idea about anything.. baby is weaning so she will be eating pouches/food we eat but she still has formula bottle feeds. Toddler still loves his milk at night.

Few questions:

  • how do i take formula? Do i take the powder tub and make it as i go or the ready made formula bottles which may be costly? How would i make the milk? With boiled bottled water there?
  • sterilising bottles?
  • currently only have buggy which both can use 1 at a time due to baby pram breaking.. do you suggest buying a cheap baby pram so they both have something? Thinking of buying a baby carrier for aeroplane if i only have the one buggy
  • any other advice/suggestions are needed

I would take a lightweight pushchair for each of them or try and get a second hand double, pushchairs are great for carting all the stuff down to the beach or pool. They can sleep in them in the evenings so you can enjoy at nice walk/bar/possibly the entertainment if you don't mind the noise. You also take them to the plane steps which will be a big help at the airport.

A sling for the baby for when you land will be a lifesaver as you won't get your pushchair back until the cases come out. It's also handy to wear baby when you go up for your food if you're staying in a hotel.

Take enough formula for the whole trip plus extra incase you are delayed or baby drinks more because it's hot and baby's get extra thirsty when they're hot.

What accommodation have you booked? Is there a microwave where you can sterilise bottles or could you take sterilising tablets and cold water sterilise? To make the bottles people tend to boil bottled water but it has to be a certain kind of bottled water, someone else on here might be more helpful. I know that in Lanzarote one of the bottled water brands has a picture of a baby on it to show it's safe for babies.

It usually way cheaper to take your own nappies with you than buy them out there. I find that pampers are a lot lighter per pack than shop own brand ones. Don't forget your swim nappies, also mega expensive in holiday resorts.
