When is the best time to go away to beat the winter blues?

I get really down in Winter due to the lack of sunlight and warmth. This Winter I have decided I am going to take a week, maybe two off to go overseas. When is the best time to take time off?

We'd definitely be going long haul. Either to Asia or to the Caribbean.

Is it better to go away over New Years, or is it better to go away in say mid November?

Personally, I’d go in January or even early Feb, as that’s when I get the lowest from lack of light and warmth.

We went 3/1 this year never having had a winter holiday before . Only went to lanzarote so not on the scale you are planning but omg it was brilliant 25 degrees all day . We just totally forgot it was Winter in the Uk , definitely going again next January

Even a week mid Jan is great - you have something better than Xmas to anticipate... and it cuts Jan down to manageable proportions

Don't shout at me, but I don't mind January too much as the days are getting noticeably longer very quickly and that for me is very uplifting. Still have the usual post Xmas slump but I can live with it.

HOWEVER, I don't have children and am older now, so the run up to Xmas and the constant forced jollity does my head in every. single. year. Hate it so much and it is getting darker up to 21st December also, ugh!

So this year we just took a chance and skipped away first two weeks in December. Went to Estepona in Spain (Gibraltar end of the Costa). The weather was absolutely amazing for the time of year, I wasn't expecting, nor could I cope with 40d heat but it was a very pleasant 20 ish with clear blue skies and due to the time zone or maybe being nearer the Equator, not sure, the sun set about 6pm ish. It is darker in the mornings, but the longer days really lifted my mood.

I will do it again this year, but will come back just a few days before Xmas. While I dislike Xmas, family things are nice for ONE day lol.

I am fortunate to be able to do it, and I am thankful.

I am fine with the run up to Christmas but find January and February grim so we just had a week in St Lucia. Not too busy and a very relaxed vibe which was perfect. We were child free. would definitely do it again.

We always go long haul to a Caribbean island, cruise or Mexico towards the end of January. Something to look forward to after Christmas, then when we get back it is already February. February then flies by.

These cost virtually the same
We went here in Jan it was great

Then two weeks later went here

The weather was horrific, but we wrapped up had great food in the pubs and restaurants, great family time by the log fire.
Sometimes its better to keep busy in the dark months and look forward to the little pleasures.
