Flying to US with 2 under 5s - do the airlines allow it?

I'm likely to go across to NY with my 2 dc in March to visit my dh, who is working over there. I have a ds, 4, and a dd, nearly 2. Does anyone know whether the airlines would let me travel on my own with 2 young children? I never considered it until someone put doubt into my mind.

Obviously there's then the issue of dealing with them, for which there is loads of help on earlier threads. Can anyone recommend an airline, though - which is best/best value?

Just had a look on the BA site. They say:

"There must be one adult accompanying each infant seated on an adult?s lap.

  • if one adult wishes to travel with a second infant, this is only possible if the second infant is aged between 6 and 23 months, he/she must be seated in an approved car-type seat and we will charge the child fare
  • if the second infant is under 6 months you must travel with a second accompanying adult or a British Airways escort for which there is a charge"

This is what you've got confused about. You can't travel with 2 infants, but only your DD is an infant so that's fine.

We like BA and American Airlines. Some people swear by Virgin but I didn't rate them when we used them last.

Thanks - put my mind at rest. By car-type seat do they mean the really heavy 4-15kg car seats? If so, how does anyone transport these, plus kids?

I'd love to have dd on her own seat, but can't see how on earth I'd manage with that plus kids. Anyone done it?
