Hello all. I am a debutant to mumsnet. My husband and I recently moved to live in France with our 4 young children aged between 9yrs and 3yrs. We would like to go for a few days break somewhere in the centre of France. We live in Burgundy since October and life has been hectic. Problem is, it is very difficult to find a hotel with family rooms or adjoining rooms and entertainment for kids. Any suggestions?

Hi,
We live in France for the last 5 months. Yesterday, my 5 year old son got a bite on his finger from a cat. It was punctured in 3 places. My husband took him to the hospital where it was treated. He was told it was really serious. He received antibiotics and was referred to a special hospital to be treated against a condition known as RAGE. If our son contracted RAGE and was not treated against this, we were told it was certain death within 3 weeks. Imagine our shock. Apparently RAGE is not easily contracted but it is out there. I never heard of it before. Be warned all cat owners. Always get a cat bite treated immediately. If anyone has any information on RAGE I would be glad to hear about it.

I've never heard of RAGE. Do you mean rabies?

Hi Belgo,
My husband asked the doctor if he meant rabies but he said no. As we speak, my husband is at the RAGE clinic with my son.

if you look at this link, where there are translations in french and english, the word "rage" is used in france where we use the word "rabies"

hope your wee one is ok.

I've never heard of it either?
But cat bites have a high infection rate! This is interesting
Also we tend to rent cottages in france ruralfrance direct is good but there are hundreds I like to try and get one with a pool (price dependent)!

that must be very scarey, being treated for rabies. It is incredibly rare though.

You were right to take him to a&e. Prophaletic antibiotics need to be given for rabies before any symptoms occur, otherwise it's too late.
