All Inclusive - Canary Islands - Vegetarian Choices?

We are looking at holidaying somewhere on the Canaries but we are all vegetarians.
Can anyone recommend a family friendly hotel with good vegetarian options?

I don't know sorry but I'm placemarking as I'd like to know too! I normally go self catering when I go on holiday due to being veggie.

The all-in place we stayed in in Tenerife, we ended up eating a lot from the salad bar (and peering very carefully at each tub, as the Spanish love to stick bacon in things, meaning well but obvs not for me)

At the best of times all inclusive is a compromised choice, aimed at people who are welded to their sunbed with a possible alcohol problem, who can't say no to their kids unless it's adults only of course..you get what you're given/ paid for..it's all about profit for the supplier

Very outdated view. There are all inclusive hotels at all market points these days. Iberostar Anthelia in Tenerife is great for families. Food was excellent but I’m sorry we’re not veggie so can’t be sure on that front.

We stayed at the Seaside Los Jameos in Lanzarote and they had a special vegetarian and vegan area, but lots of the other dishes would also have been suitable for vegetarians.

Thank you all for your input, it's very helpful.
Alcohol is not important but soft drinks are 😀

Las Dalias in Tenerife had a vegetarian and gluten free section at the AI buffet. I can't remember how varied it was though.

Go to Trip Advisor, search for a hotel and enter vegetarian in the search bar for the reviews. Hopefully you'll get an idea of how they cater for vegetarians.

We are going to Fuerteventura tomorrow - I'll report back!

We went all inclusive to Gran Canaria in October. I am veggie, and found the choices very limited. I was fine for breakfast, all the usual to choose from. Lunch and dinner were difficult as there was never a veggie main. Lots of plain veg, but nothing to go with it. There was always a salad bar, but the cheese was bland, really not nice. We ended up eating out a few times.

I wouldn’t go all inclusive again.

Thank you but to add to our dilemma, one child is salt water averse; so a fresh water pool is needed too!

My experience was about 10 years ago but I went to Fuerteventura and the food was awful. Most of the vegetables were from tins. After about 5 days we decided to go to a restaurant and their vegetables were tinned too. I was desperate for a fresh salad by the time I came home and I'm not a salad lover.

I've since learned to search "vegetarian" on trip advisor reviews and haven't gone wrong again.

There's so many amazing restaurants in the canaries that are also really struggling due to All Inclusive hotels. I'm vegetarian and we go to the canaries every year and have never had an issue eating out. I'd really recommend you reconsider all inclusive as the world's your (vegetarian) oyster when on holiday. Soft drinks and water are inexpensive there so stock up and make use of the fridge in your room. We also buy ice creams and lollies for the freezer compartment.

With regards to the pool, I think you'll really need to do your research as a lot of places use salt water. Absolutely freezing!!!

We were all inclusive in Menorca last year, the hotel was an Occidental which has hotels all over Spain, sure there are some in the Canaries.

Loads of veggie options. There was a pasta station outside where each dinner/lunch there were 3 choices of pasta with 4 or 5 different sauces. At least 2 vegetarian. They were making pizza and there was always at least 2 out of the 4 vegetarian. A whole salad cart with lovely cheeses, and quite often boiled eggs or some sort of egg mayonnaise dish. Spanish cooking is quite heavy on the vegetables - things like tortilla is just egg/potato/onion, patatas bravas, chickpea/bean dishes, lentil dishes - although with the ones which are more like stews you need to watch out for chorizo or similar. Big trays of all the usual grilled or boiled veggies.

What I didn't see was "fake" veggie things like fake bacon, or vegetarian sausages at breakfast. Although who'd want a fake sausage when there's waffles and maple syrup on offer.

I'm sure you'll be fine. The two key phrases are "Soy vegetariano" - I am a vegetarian - or for more clarity "No como carne ni pescado" - I don't eat meat or fish.

We go all inclusive with Tui (adults only) and there is always plenty for us to eat and I am vegan.

Karatema · 25/02/2023 10:24

Thank you for all your advice. I will try to get TripAdvisor to cooperate Smile
I will also reconsider going self catering and then eating out but this may take a bit of persuading of the other adults!

Get a big villa, fill the fridge with drinks and ice cream and eat out for dinner. Simple breakfast and lunch in.
No scramble for sunbeds plus lots of lovely restaurants to choose from.

I’ve stated in a couple of Iberostar hotels over the last few years and they’ve always had lots of vegetarian food on offer
