I have been on a mega diet since September and have so far lost 7 stone!!!

I will be finishing soon and then slowly reintroducing my foods but once I am back to normal eating, I wnat to goa way with my hubby for a lovely weekend of good food, fine wines, some spa treatments, bit of tennis, plus some good old adult activity!

Can anyone recommend a lovely hotel, not too expensive, within 2 hours of SW London please!

We will be going the first weekend in July so wnat to think now so things are not fully booked if I leave it until nearer the time.

Thank you!

Amazing 7 stone!! Well done aznerak, that is so WOW!

3 hotels come to mind, Lainston House in Winchester, very cosy, country summer hotel, has tennis, amazing food. No spa, but I should think they have therapists available to come in and do treatments.

The other is the Four Seasons Hampshire, just outside Farnham, they have 2 tennis courts and Spa.

Pennyhill Park in Surrey has tennis and a HUGE spa. Pools and bubbly tubs outside with sun loungers, so that would be nice in the summer.

Thing is, when they have a spa and tennis and amazing food, it does make them a bit pricey.

thanks for your ideas!

Having chatted more, we've decided we only need a pool and a gym.

Ideally located in New Forest, anywhere on A3 route, Salisbury area or Winchester area.

Any more suggestions gratefully received.

Thank you

Hotel du vin in Winchester?
I don't think salis has any decent hotels
Isn't Chewton Glen New Forest, hang on

WideWebWitch · 10/02/2008 21:49

it is but I haven't stayed

Really recommend looking on Tripadvisor before booking

WideWebWitch · 10/02/2008 21:49

The Grove is the wrong end of London but is supposed to be good. Do you have to go out of London? Sophable recently recommended The Charlotte St hotel I think, hang on

WideWebWitch · 10/02/2008 21:51

here or I would thoroughly recommend One Aldwych

Definitely want to go somewhere outside London. Hubby works in London and spends a lot of time there, as did I pre-kids.

Want somewhere in the country where we can go for long walks, enjoy the calm etc!

Ashdown Park is lovely but may be overcatering for your new slimmed-down list of requirements. There is lots of nice walking in the area, though.

PortAndLemon · 11/02/2008 08:14

Oh, or Tylney Hall -- haven't been there, but it's a sister hotel to Ashdown Park so I would expect similar standards, and it's a bit cheaper.

MegBusset · 11/02/2008 08:48

We have been here, it's v nice.

Nutfield priory near Redhill, not far from Gatwick. Nutfield
My friend booked online and we had the best deal for I think 3 spa treatments, dinner and room and breakfast. Really good deal.

Oblomov · 11/02/2008 09:18

Port and Lemon, I love Tylney Hall - it is lovely.

WideWebWitch · 11/02/2008 09:58

I stayed at Nutfield Priory a couple of years ago for work, it was nice.

NoNickname · 11/02/2008 10:00

Sopwell House in St Albans is lovely. St Albans also has a lovely big park (Alexandra Park??) and there's plenty of grounds to stroll in and countryside not far away.

Oblomov · 11/02/2008 10:00

www, for work ???????
you lucky cow !

WideWebWitch · 11/02/2008 10:04

I've been to Tylney Hall for work too but a LONG time ago. In the morning at Nutfield we had to go to a meeting at Gatwick so it wasn't all glamour! It was a nice hotel though, impressive hall and gothic style arches iirc

For a romantic weekend you must head for Whatley Manor. No under 12s allowed, great spa, superb food, efficient and discrete service.

I would also warn you that a number of the other hotels mentioned are frequently used for weddings. Whilst you can book Whatley for a wedding it isn't that big, so it gets used far less frequently (and the no kids rule applies to wedding too I think).

Lucknam Park near Bath very nice but might be a bit pricy and on the outside of the range for travel. Otherwise, did someone mention New Forest? I think there are quite a few nice ones there - can't remember what it's called but try googling bath house spa new forest and you'll find the hotel which is attached to the spa - same treatments as in Bath but half the price! Enjoy - sounds like you deserve it!

pagwatch · 19/02/2008 17:03

Nutfield priory - absoloute shite. I was there last year.the room was grubby, the food was average and the hotel was catering a wedding and refused us entry to some of the residents areas. Dh was there on business recently and it was no better.
Pennyhill park is very nice and the spa is lovely.Been there three times and always good. the food is nice too.
Lucknam Park is gorgeous and very friendly with nice facilities.
Cliveden is really nice though and you have all the gardens to walk in as well ( very expensive though). That would probably be my first choice followed by Pennyhill.
have a nice time.

Bellie · 19/02/2008 17:07

Lucknam Park is fab, am looking at there for 10th Anniversary stay, but apparently the pool/spa is being refurbished - may be worth a call to check what is actually being done.
