Masks on airplanes.

Looking at holidays in March/April, possibly long-haul.

Anyone know if any airlines are still insisting on masks - both in general & on specific routes, please?

I doubt it as we didn't need them for our flight to Lanzarote last summer. We needed them in the pharmacy and on the coaches though when we were there

Have just returned from Japan flying with JAL. Masks are mandatory on all planes, but this is being reviewed on the 13th March

Newjobformoremoney · 24/02/2023 16:47

I flew long haul two weeks ago and no insistence on masks. I’ve been on multiple flights since June and I haven’t worn a mask once I think.

SallySailor · 24/02/2023 16:50

I think that mostly depends on the destination. If the destination country require masks on public transport, you're likely to have to wear them on the plane. If I remember correctly, Germany I'd one place that required them over the winter.

Wiennetta · 24/02/2023 16:52

It will vary by route and airline. Although for most flights you won’t need masks, there are still a few you would. Probably easier to find the route you’re interested in and then check the requirements?

DJSteves · 24/02/2023 21:35

Really does depend on the destination. Just returned from Saudi on Turkish Airlines with no masks. But a flight to Dubai did require masks

Thanks for all your replies.
I'm trying to take a short cut, & only look at countries/airlines that don't require masks - so Japan's out !
The FO guidance is woolly, & airlines bury the info I need.

Ba weren't insisting on them last year but we did have to wear them in airports on some trips, you could take them off as soon as you stepped inside the plane.

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 25/02/2023 19:41

The thing is the airline could change their requirements tomorrow or next week, or the week after. So why book your holiday based on the mask requirement? Book to go to somewhere you want to go and if you have to wear a mask, wear a mask.

What a silly comment. You have no idea why OP is asking about this.

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 25/02/2023 19:46

@IsItBedtimeYetNope and what if she spends thousands based on todays mask rules, then at some point in the next 2 months they change it ?

Interesting! I just got back from Dubai a week or so ago and didn't have to wear a mask either way. Perhaps it depends on the airline?

Only occasion I've had to wear a mask on a plane within the last year was on flights to and from Madrid. But no idea if it's still a requirement for flights to Spain (I went last August).

Kualma · 26/02/2023 09:11

Depends which airline you fly with. I’ve flown a lot of airlines in the last month and only one of them required masks (Cathay Pacific) however they weren’t enforcing it on the return leg back to London. It entirely depends on the destination and which airline you travel with.

Ginger1982 · 26/02/2023 13:04

We had to wear them flying in and out of Germany last summer.

PuttingDownRoots · 26/02/2023 13:06

Didn't need to wear them for France about 10 weeks ago.

Silversalt · 26/02/2023 13:34

Most countries have dropped mandates. Spain finally dropped the last masks on public transport rules a couple of weeks ago.

Having said that I'll never fly without a mask again. I don't care if I'm the only one on the flight (actually I was last month). After years of picking up horrible chest infections on flights I have had three holidays infection free due to some part in wearing FFP3 mask.

Masks on airplanes.
Airplanes is an American term.
In this country it depends on your class.
Working class say aeroplane.
Middle class say aircraft.
😉😁😁

maranella · 26/02/2023 14:48

Definitely not required on US routes.

28January · 27/02/2023 10:33

It depends on the destination. We had to wear masks from Australia to Bali because it is an Indonesian requirement which was enforced on our flight but apparently not all. On the flight back you don’t have to wear a mask because Australia doesn’t require one.
