A Gift to take to Canada

My child has been chosen for an exchange trip to Canada (Toronto). He will be staying a host family. I'd like to send a small thank you gift. Ideally a little wicker hamper with some Scottish products in but that's probably too bulky & all contents probably banned. Any ideas for a gift / how I could find out what I can take ?

re-joins own Zombie thread ...

In the end, Ds College had not arranged Host Families in time' so they were bunged in student accomodation (2 different areas as that wasn't in time either..)

It's a pity as I know Ds was looking forward to meeting with a Canadian family & talking about his experience of living in Scotland compared to theirs in Canada.

Thanks to everyone who posted, inc @john625
The students were left to fend for themselves (no cooking facilities) so spent a fortune on burgers & pizza. Canada seems expensive (includeing taxes, tips etc)
